Lesnar won the WWE title off Kofi Kingston in a matter of seconds, hitting the New Day superstar with an F5 as soon as the match kicked off to become SmackDown's new champ.
Despite his quickfire win, The Beast Incarnate had very little time to savor his victory as Rey Mysterio emerged from backstage with Velasquez by his side. The 37-year-old UFC fighter made his way down to the ring while a shellshocked Brock watched on in visible fright before his challenger exploded with a barrage of punches.
Lesnar would escape Velasquez's attack in a hasty retreat. He considered returning to the ring to have at it with the California native but thought the better of it and left Velasquez to close the show on his own.
Per Meltzer, fans won't have to wait long to see these two towering figures go at it in a WWE ring as Lesnar vs. Velasquez is set to be the main event for Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the end of the month.
Velasquez defeated Brock in UFC competition back in 2010 and the latter has a very legitimate reason to be afraid.
The storyline stems from The Beast Incarnate's vicious attack on Mysterio and his son Dominick during Monday night's episode of Raw. Velasquez has warned that he's there for payback.
"I'm here because Brock Lesnar knows what he did," he told Renee Young after SmackDown. "It wasn't right, I saw it. I'm here to get some payback."
Cain's Status Is Still Unclear
Velasquez is still contracted to UFC and it's unclear how long he's signed to WWE for. It's also rumored that he hasn't actually signed a deal with WWE.
If the latter's the case then it would be pretty strange, given his appearance on SmackDown. The star is understood to have negotiated with AEW as well so it would make sense for WWE to tie him down as quickly as possible and if they haven't, they will by October 31.
Meltzer reports that they offered "a huge money deal" for the Crown Jewel match but it could also be a one-off.
