The casket match stipulation is one of the more polarizing ones in wrestling history. WWE popularized the match when associating it with The Undertaker. Other wrestlers would become part of the stipulation as well as the company realized it got over. Shawn Michaels defeating Undertaker at Royal Rumble 1998 is among the better matches that gets attention, but others have been left in the dark.

We will look at the underrated casket matches to take place in the wrestling business. WWE had the most matches of the stipulations. Other promotions like TNA and Lucha Underground introduced their version of the match when they felt it made sense. 10 The Undertaker vs Big Show (Survivor Series 2008)

The highest profile casket match to get lost in the shuffle saw The Undertaker defending the World Championship against Big Show at Survivor Series 2008. Both giants had a feud heading into the show that warranted a stipulation to add to the appeal.

Undertaker defeated Big Show in a fun match that saw the legend having to forcefully move the heaviest wrestler on the roster into a casket. Survivor Series 2008 was viewed as one of the better shows of the year with this match adding to the appeal.

9 Abyss vs D'Angelo Dinero (Final Resolution 2010)

TNA threw a lot of ideas at the wall to try to become a viable contender to WWE in 2010. Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff’s regime provided a lot of risks they felt could take them to the next level. Abyss was among the first wrestlers Hogan and Bischoff viewed as a top star to build around.

The casket match stipulation was used for a match between Abyss and D’Angelo Dinero aka Elijah Burke at Final Resolution 2010. Abyss won the match that showed TNA could use the casket match and find relative success with it.

8 Mil Muertes vs Fenix vs Jeremiah Crane (Lucha Underground: June 27, 2018)

Lucha Underground had a special product that was different from everything else in wrestling. They utilized the casket match under the name Grave Consequences. One of the better matches featured a triple threat match between three of their best wrestlers.

Mil Muertes, Fenix and Jeremiah Crane aka Sami Callihan all had a great match utilizing the casket to their advantage. Lucha Underground had an outstanding track record of bringing the strongest match quality out of unique gimmicks.

7 Kane vs Triple H (Raw: October 28, 2002)

Kane and Triple H had one of the better matches utilizing the casket during an episode of Raw. Both wrestlers were already established to get the fans invested in a match with the gimmick. Kane had a similar history as Undertaker with the stipulations.

The match was quite compelling with Kane eventually winning by slamming Triple H into the casket and slamming it shut. Kane became a casket match specialist with WWE making it one of his strengths in various video games.

6 Mil Muertes vs Prince Puma (Lucha Underground: March 27, 2016)

Lucha Underground had another classic using the Grave Consequences match in 2016. Ricochet worked under the Prince Puma character and mask during his time in Lucha Underground. The match against Mil Muertes with the casket was a great experience for viewers.

Muertes did a great job making the match an important part of his luster. Puma was the perfect smaller wrestler to have a big man vs underdog story with the stipulation. Muertes won the match to become an even bigger star in the company.

5 The Undertaker vs The Rock (Raw: May 17, 1999)

The Undertaker was the leader of the Ministry of Darkness as they united with The Corporation faction. WWE had a casket match on Raw with Undertaker facing off with The Rock. It was a fun match that featured Triple H interfering to help Undertaker.

The aftermath was even more memorable with Triple H hitting the casket with a sledgehammer with Rock inside of it. Undertaker won thanks to the Triple H interference as the Corporate Ministry proved their dominance in WWE at the time.

4 Su Yung vs Allie (Impact Wrestling: May 31, 2018)

One of the more recent casket matches to find success came in Impact Wrestling. Su Yung and Allie had a rare women’s match with the stipulation. There was a cinematic feel to the presentation of the match. Impact started to take bigger risks with their matches to have a unique feel.

Allie had a great character of the pure babyface transitioning into her Bunny persona with a more intense side. Yung was always a darker character and it allowed them to both tap into a unique feud. Impact’s version of a casket match in a modern way helped both wrestlers involved.

3 Goldust vs The Undertaker (In Your House 8: Beware of Dog)

In Your House was a secondary PPV event meant to give other wrestlers a chance to thrive outside of the few consistent main eventers. Goldust received a huge match against The Undertaker at In Your House 8: Beware of Dog with the casket stipulation.

The result shocked everyone with Undertaker taking a rare loss in the casket match stipulation. Undertaker looked like he was going to lose until Mankind was revealed as hiding inside of the casket. The attack on Undertaker trapped him in the casket to give Goldust the win in a compelling fashion.

2 Fenix vs Mil Muertes (Lucha Underground: March 18, 2015)

Fenix and Mil Muertes had the first Grave Consequences match in Lucha Underground history to hit a home run. Both wrestlers told a great story of a feud over multiple weeks before culminating with the casket match stipulation.

The size advantage for Muertes and Fenix’s underdog character allowed them to tell a story together. Fenix overcame the odds to win the outstanding match. The violence and athleticism involved took the art of the casket match to another level.

1 Daniel Bryan vs Kane (Smackdown: January 29, 2015)

Daniel Bryan and Kane saw their tag team end for a few years when entering a feud. Kane representing The Authority when Triple H and Stephanie McMahon tried to hold Bryan down. The two had a casket match become the attraction for an episode of Smackdown in 2015.

Bryan was still performing at a high level and worked his butt off to have a great match with the stipulation. The finish saw him hitting the running knee on Kane to send him into the casket and closed it to score the win over the veteran of the stipulation.
