Chad Gable spoke with Sports Illustrated and revealed who helped come up with the Shorty G name and why he sees it as an opportunity.

During a recent interview with SI's Justin Barrasso, Gable spoke of his struggles in WWE, where the change of his new name came from and what it means for him going forward. Despite the overwhelmingly sarcastic reaction to the change from fans, Gable sees it as a good thing.

Gable recently cut a promo on SmackDown and revealed his new name in WWE. When he uttered the words, "Shorty G", fans immediately jumped all over what they deemed to be a terrible idea by WWE creative. Gable, however, sees the new persona as an opportunity and he's firmly embracing the change. Saying he believed every word of his promo on the show, "That promo, I felt it very deeply."

Gable revealed that new Executive Director Bruce Prichard told him to go out and feel that promo. He did and said, "Last Friday was the very first step in that process, and it’s only going to get bigger."

When asked where the name came from, Gable said “Vince is someone who has helped me a lot." He said that Vince was trying to explain why his serious personas weren't really getting over in WWE and Vince started giving him ideas. Once he realized that this wasn't just about wrestling, but entertainment, he said, "I started to understand his vision, and now I’m off and running with this new character." He added, "I’m going to have a great time with it and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into it."

Will This Really Get Gable Over?

The fans still aren't really sold on the new name but the one thing he has going for him is that the WWE Universe wants him to succeed. As a great in-ring performer and someone the fans are going to see as saddled with this awful idea, they'll likely get behind him and cheer for him.

The only bad thing about that, is Vince will probably think it's the name that's popular and not Gable as a person who deserves better.
