It's safe to say that things couldn't have gone much better for Chris Jericho and AEW through the first six weeks of the "Wednesday Night Wars."

AEW Dynamite has crushed NXT in the ratings battle through each of the first six weeks. That said, NXT has been cutting the deficit by a wide margin, drawing in just 9,000 less viewers than Dynamite this week.

Still, it hasn't been much of a war so far. AEW has dominated the competition in the early going, and they're coming off an excellent Full Gear pay-per-view show that saw Y2J defend his AEW World Championship against Cody.

Simply put, Jericho couldn't have asked for a better 49th birthday. He defended his title in an epic match against one of the world's elite competitors, while further strengthening the whole look of the AEW product.

As you could imagine, Jericho was in a pretty cheerful mood after his victory over Cody. Speaking to the media after the show, Y2J took some more shots at NXT, comparing them to "ECW 2009." Not only that, but Jericho isn't the least bit surprised about how much AEW has dominated the wars (h/t Ringside News).

"Am I surprised we’re winning? Of course I knew we’d win. Our star power crushes NXT’s star power and exactly what I knew would happen that NXT before was cool as a stand alone thing and now it’s just another WWE show. It’s like 2009 ECW...

I’m sure at some point Roman Reigns will be on NXT now and Hulk Hogan will return to a TV studio for the first time since 1991 in Memphis — that’s fine. All we’re going to do is continue to do is worry about ourselves and concentrate on our storylines and our matches and our characters and building stars."

To the credit of Triple H and company, NXT's overall product has gotten better and better every year. You can't blame WWE for wanting to go to war against the rival AEW promotion, but so far, nothing has worked in toppling the new business competitor.

Two weeks ago, WWE aired a one-hour special for the purpose of helping NXT viewers catch up on what they may have missed from the previous week. They also ran an episode with "limited commercial interruptions," but that also wasn't enough to gain the upper hand against AEW. We'll see what Triple H and WWE officials try next as they try to gain more ground.

NXT Has A Long Way To Go

AEW has pieced together an excellent product thus far, and the wrestlers are giving the fans exactly what they want. Even though NXT has gotten closer to catching AEW, they still have a long way to go in balancing out the war. Right now, it's clear that AEW is primed for more long-term success.
