Chris Jericho shocked the world back in November when he appeared for New Japan Pro Wrestling to challenge Kenny Omega for the IWPG United States Championship. While the match at Wrestle Kingdom 12 was absolutely phenomenal, fans expected this to be all of Y2J’s appearances with the Japanese company. The night after Wrestle Kingdom 12 however, Jericho again shocked us by attacking Tetsuya Naito, and their bout was set up for ‘Strong Style Evolved’, a New Japan event to be held in Long Beach late in March.

Again, fans expected this to be all of Jericho’s involvement with New Japan, but recent reports from Sports Illustrated tell us otherwise, as New Japan is apparently strongly considering the idea of Jericho vs. Kazuchika Okada, the undisputed Ace of New Japan. If true, this would lead us to believe that Jericho is going over Naito at Strong Style Evolved, and if it’s treated with the same care as Alpha vs. Omega, this could again be Jericho’s best run yet.

Somehow, Chris continues to develop his game and reinvent himself. Many fans have voiced their opinion that his match with Omega was their favorite Jericho match ever, and it’s got our mouths watering at the prospect of yet another huge Jericho clash for New Japan. Obviously this is just a rumor at this point, and plans can change almost instantly in the wrestling business, but this sounds like a fantastic match. It’s clear that New Japan has plans in store for Cody/Kenny and White/Okada for the year, but those are slow burn stories. So once Okada is done with EVIL at Strong Style Evolved, this makes complete and utter sense.

Add to these rumors that Y2J recently commented that “he’d love to do the Brock Lesnar situation” in New Japan, and this seems a complete possibility. Perhaps we can rule out a Royal Rumble or WrestleMania appearance for Jericho this year, but if they’re anywhere near as good as Omega/Jericho, most fans won’t mind at all.

So there you have it, New Japan is strongly considering keeping Chris Jericho around to battle the best wrestler in the world after his program with Naito. Considering the strong friendship that exists between Jericho and Gedo, New Japan’s head booker, plus the success of their Wrestle Kingdom story, we’d say there’s a high likelihood of this one happening. So what do you guys think? Is this a match you’d love to see? Is Jericho’s appearance in New Japan making you a fan of their product if you were primarily a WWE fan? Do you simply not care about anything outside of the WWE? Let us know in the comments below.
