Chris Jericho will wrestle a competitor with an 0-8 record in AEW during 2019's last Dynamite. Here's why Jungle Boy gets to dance with Le Champion.

During the build to the debut of AEW, the fledgling promotion was described as being a "league" on numerous occasions. Although that isn't technically true, AEW focuses on wins and losses more than any other wrestling company. They're flaunted when wrestlers make their way to the ring, and who is next in line for a title shot depends on which competitors have the best records.

That's why when Jungle Boy was granted a match with Chris Jericho, fans started to ask questions. Le Champion revealed on Dynamite this week that he is contractually obliged to have one more match in 2019. With only two episodes of the show to go before the New Year's Day edition, that doesn't leave him with much time.

Jericho proceeded to run down a list of potential opponents before being interrupted by Jurassic Express. After an exchange in the ring which ended with a slap, a match between Jericho and Jungle Boy was booked for the December 18 Dynamite. AEW's website then caused confusion, stating that the match between the two of them would be for the AEW Championship.

The reason that revelation proved so controversial is due to Jungle Boy's record. As you can see above, the young star has had eight matches in AEW so far, losing all of them. So how does that warrant him worthy for a World Title shot? The short answer, it doesn't and it hasn't. It has since been revealed by both Jericho and Cody Rhodes that Jungle Boy's match will not be for the title.

Jericho's mention of Rhodes on Wednesday night was another element of this whole scenario that confused fans. The champ stated that he can't face the EVP since Rhodes can never have a title shot in AEW, further fueling the belief that his final match of 2019 would be for the title. Rhodes and Jericho can still wrestle each other, but due to the stipulation he placed on himself, it would have to be a non-title affair.
