Chris Jericho has been the ultimate game changer for AEW, and the former WWE superstar and World Champion is playing a prominent role in building up the new promotion.

Being a seasoned veteran who's seen it all in the wrestling business, Jericho is also among the key leaders in the AEW locker room. With great power comes great responsibility, and Jericho took it upon himself to send a firm message following this week's episode of Dynamite.

As some AEW viewers have noticed in tag team matches, the officials and lead commentator Jim Ross have been perplexed and agitated about the lack of clear tags. There have been some instances where the official doesn't seem to know who the legal man is, and it got to a point where Jericho decided to put his foot down.

Jericho appeared on Keepin It 100 with Konan (h/t Ringside News) and explained that he led a talent meeting backstage, where Le Champion sent a loud and clear message about how the tag teams need to cut back on the sloppiness.

"I called a team meeting — I’ll tell you right now. The lack of tags and the lack of just normal tag team wrestling psychology drove me nuts to the point where that was one of the big knocks against our company in about week three or four if you remember.”

They started making excuses for the Lucha Brothers cause I’ll be honest with ya, tagging out they’re lazy. They don’t care. They just walk in and out whenever they want and do whatever they want and it’s not right. It’s not how you do it...

So, I called a meeting with the whole crew and said you’re burying the refs. If you don’t have any rules then you don’t get any heat and it’s killing our show because our honeymoon period is over and now people are watching us and they’re being confused by the lack of rules. So that’s changing slowly."

The tag team division in AEW have now been put on notice, namely The Lucha Brothers after being called out by Jericho. Now that things are clear and concrete, we can expect better choreography in the AEW tag team matches.

Remarkably, AEW and WWE NXT finished in a tie this week with 778,000 viewers apiece. So far, Jericho and AEW have won the bulk of the Wednesday Night War showdowns, although NXT has been picking up serious momentum in recent weeks.

Jericho's Experience & Leadership Is Going A Long Way

Jericho's impact in AEW is on par with the one Hulk Hogan made when he joined WCW in 1994, thus starting up the Monday Night Wars with WWE. Like Hogan at the time, Jericho brings tremendous leadership and much-needed experience. He fought on both sides of the WCW-WWE war, after all, so Jericho knows what it takes to build up a strong product on a weekly basis. He got to show that during this pivotal meeting with the other AEW talents backstage, and hopefully everybody listened closely to what Jericho had to say.
