Chris Jericho hasn’t appeared on WWE television since July, and fans don’t know when to expect a return for the List of Stupid Idiots. Y2J is set to face Kenny Omega in NJPW on Thursday, before presumably hitting the road again with his band, Fozzy.
But according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s “possible” that Jericho appears at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view on Jan. 28. It should be noted that Meltzer also believes Jericho could appear at Raw 25th Anniversary show on Jan. 22, six days before the 30-man battle.
If Jericho does emerge as a surprise entrant, don’t expect him to win it. Fozzy recently announced their upcoming tour schedule, and they’ll be doing a show in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, on the same night as WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans.
As of now, only John Cena, Finn Balor, Shinsuke Nakamura, Randy Orton, Elias and Baron Corbin have been confirmed for the Royal Rumble event. We see a number of shocking entries most years, so Jericho could definitely be one of them – though his odds of winning are absolutely next-to-none.
Jericho is among the greatest superstars who has yet to win the Royal Rumble. But no man has spent more time in Royal Rumble matches than Jericho, whose four hours and 56 minutes easily trumps Triple H – the next closes at four hours even. Y2J returned to the WWE in early 2016, and came in as one of the favorites to win it all. However, he was the 26th man to be eliminated (by Dean Ambrose), lasting 51:20.
So don’t get your hopes up, Jericho fans. It will be awesome to see him (as it usually is), if he is able to return to WWE programming this month. But no, he’s not a logical fit to win the Royal Rumble for the first time in 2018.
