It did not take long for WWE to realize the star potential for of Chris Masters. Three years after becoming a professional wrestler, he was on WWE television as "The Masterpiece," reviving the potency of the full nelson. Masters' popularity became almost immediate, commencing feuds with names such as Shawn Michaels, John Cena, Kurt Angle, Ric Flair, and Bobby Lashley.

Although he never won a title during his WWE tenure from 2005-2007, and again from 2007-2011, there was one time when he was booked to become champion, but plans changed.

"Actually, the original plans was we were gonna win the titles [at WrestleMania], but then I think what happened was [Kane and Big Show] ended up dropping them to the Spirit Squad, which shows that they made it not necessarily a plan," said Masters. "They wanted to turn [Carlito] babyface and keep me as a heel, which is what they did. So, we were supposed to win the tag belts originally, but then plans changed."

For the last several months of his career, Masters was not a feature on Raw or SmackDown, but spent most of his time working as a babyface against mid- to low-card heels. Although Masters did state that he was getting comfortable in the babyface role, and his quality of matches began to increase, he was not happy being relegated to Superstars for the latter part of his career. He also stated that his 2011 release "came out of nowhere."

Although it has been seven years since appearing in the WWE, Masters commented on whether he would return or not.

"I would definitely listen to the phone call, for sure," said Masters. "It'll be nice if [WWE] did, but it's not necessarily an aspiration of mine at this point. I'm enjoying what I'm doing, and the freedom. And I'm just getting older now. [I don't know how long a run] in WWE could last at this point. Some guys are able to do it well into their 40s, but I'm 35 now, so I'm just thinking about what I could do long-term outside of the wrestling I'm doing now, obviously."

Over the past few years Masters has been wrestling as Chris Adonis, and competed for numerous independent promotions. On television, Masters was a part of the GFW invasion to TNA (Impact Wrestling), and also returned to Impact Wrestling in 2017 as a babyface, but quickly turned heel. He would then align with Eli Drake.

However, Masters was mostly seen as a fall guy, just to make Drake look better and elude from danger. Not happy about the way he was booked, Masters quit the company in early 2018.

"I like Eli Drake. He's actually a great dude," said Masters. "It was just the way [Impact] had us booked was, you know, they had us kinda in cohoots or as a unit was one time thing. But it was like featuring him and using me as the fall guy or cheerleader and got to the point where they were gonna book me in something meaningful that could be useful to me and my work outside of here, or at least pay me appropriate for this and neither one of those were being met, So, in the end, I eventually just decided that I want out of this. I was tired of being, like you said, used as a fall guy."

Through his experience in WWE and Impact Wrestling, Masters has now created a well-established name, and is currently competing for numerous promotions around the world.
