January will mark six years since CM Punk last competed in WWE, but despite the bitter departure from the company, the former World Champion could return to the ring on one condition.
CM Punk took part in a Reddit AMA, and somebody asked him about the possibility of coming back to WWE. The 40-year-old simply explained that it would "have to be a very big bag."
Presumably, Punk was talking about a big payday from WWE. And it's easy to understand that, given the injuries he endured as well as the fact that he hasn't wrestled in nearly six full years now.
Punk's possible return has been discussed time and time again throughout the years, but there's no firm indication as to whether or not he and WWE officials would do business again. So far, rumors have been rumors and nothing else.
Of course, there is a long list of wrestlers who left WWE under bitter circumstances, only to make a return to the ring. This includes Bobby Lashley, Alberto Del Rio, plus legends like Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart and the late Ultimate Warrior, among others.
Punk left WWE when he reportedly told Triple H and Vince McMahon on the Jan. 27, 2014 episode of Raw that he was "going home." CM Punk never came back to WWE, later detailing that he was dealing with numerous injuries while suffering an MRSA infection that could have been fatal.
WWE Should Bring Back CM Punk
We saw Goldberg rewrite his WWE chapter when he returned in 2016, 12 years after a frustrating exit from the company. It'd be best for all parties if CM Punk could do the same, not to mention that he's still in good shape and could still put on top quality matches. WWE needs to find a way to bury the hatchet with Punk, and if that means a giant payday, so be it.
