Cody Rhodes has been booked for a title fight against newly minted AEW World Champion Chris Jericho at upcoming PPV Full Gear. But he says there are a few variables that could make it so he doesn't get that title shot.

The 34-year-old is yet to lose in singles competition since he started life as an AEW wrestler but that could change before we get to Full Gear and he could find himself ruled out of the match as a result.

Also, Jericho is set to defend his title before facing Rhodes, which means that he could lose it. Of course, that is very unlikely.

Speaking to IGN in a recent interview, Rhodes explained that the match isn't set in stone.

"This is one of the positive uses of 'card subject to change,'" he said. "I'm coming off a win over Dustin, one of the best of all time, and coming off a win over Shawn Spears, who's an absolute stud. Those were two huge wins. So me going for the title makes all the sense in the world.

"But it may not end up being me versus Chris Jericho. Because Chris Jericho still has a title defense before that in Philadelphia. And it may not be me if I take a loss to Sammy Guevara on the premiere episode. I think Chris Jericho is probably going to get through his first title defense, but if he doesn't we're going to stick to our word about win/loss records being a deciding factor. It's really about the data and who has the best record."

They Really Aren't Joking Over Wins And Losses

It appears that AEW is taking win/loss records very seriously and contenders would need to always be on the positive side.

It would still be a shock if the match were to change because Jericho lost his belt or Cody loses more matches than he wins by the time Full Gear is upon them. But what's wrestling without plots and twists anyway?
