Cody Rhodes has turned on Kenny Omega at a New Japan event.

This has been an amazing weekend of wrestling, from NXT TakeOver to the first ever Royal Rumble event that featured two traditional Rumble matches. Yet, eager to stay in the spotlight, there has been some huge story news coming out of New Japan Pro Wrestling. We aren’t exactly sure of what the situation is, and that’s going to make us tune in to New Japan for months, but what we do know is, Cody Rhodes turned on Bullet Club leader, Kenny Omega.

At the New Beginning show, Kenny Omega lost his IWGP United States Championship to “Switchblade” Jay White, and showed plenty of frustration after the match, and that frustration boiled over when Bullet Club came to the ring. Kenny pushed Matt Jackson over which caused The Young Bucks to go backstage, but it seemed like after a few handshakes, the friction was done. Instead, Cody grabbed Omega from behind as he left the ring, and hit him with his Cross Rhodes finisher (sold incredibly well by Omega), signaling there may be a changing of the guard in Bullet Club.

Marty Scurll seemed conflicted, but Hangman Page held him down as Cody wanted to attack with a steel chair, but then came Kota Ibushi to make the save. After some tension between him and Omega, the two shared an emotional hug. This reunited the Golden Lovers, an incredibly popular team from DDT and New Japan.

So, is this Cody and Hangman breaking away from Bullet Club, or is this Cody taking over? No one is 100 percent sure yet, but Kenny Omega yesterday tweeted “A New Beginning”, and this seems to confirm that he and Ibushi will be together for the near future, signaling Omega’s exit from Bullet Club. The one thing we don’t know so far is how Tama Tonga and the rest of the original Bullet Club feel about this, but again, this is something that will be opened up soon.

So there you have it, Kenny Omega is seemingly out as the leader of Bullet Club, but is he still part of  The Elite, and will Cody’s leadership cause a full tear in Bullet Club? We’ll have to watch and find out.
