UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor has long been rumored to be signing with the WWE, but UFC President Dana White shot down those rumors revealing a text conversation with Vince McMahon.  The most recent report came from Adam Higgins of The Sun, which claimed that McGregor was talking to the company about appear at next year's WrestleMania event.

However, UFC president Dana White was quick to shoot down those rumors, according to Fox 5.

"It’s not true. It’s absolutely not true," says White. "I literally texted Vince McMahon five minutes ago and he said, 'it’s not true.'"

McGregor most recently had a bout with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather; a fight in which the Irishman lost yet performed much better than expected. It shouldn't be a surprise if he's truly not signing with WWE anytime soon, as he remains in his prime and hasn't shown any willingness to leave the UFC in the near future.

If he were to sign with WWE, McGregor wouldn't be the only UFC star to leave the squared circle. Brock Lesnar left the UFC and rejoined the WWE in 2012 after being one of White's most polarizing stars. Ronda Rousey has recently hinted at joining the WWE, with her UFC career seemingly coming to a close.

There is no doubting that McGregor would be a huge moneymaker for the WWE, but it remains to be seen if he'll make an appearance on their programming anytime soon. As long as he's the Lightweight Champion at UFC, he doesn't have any reason to change careers.

On the other hand, it's possible that White is simply trying to downplay the rumors just to avoid spoilers. It's entirely possible that McGregor is close to signing a contract, but they don't want us knowing about it.

This will be a story to monitor closely leading up to WrestleMania 34, so stay posted for future updates.
