Despite retiring from wrestling two years ago, SmackDown Live general manager Daniel Bryan hasn't given up on a return to the ring. After suffering numerous concussions and a brain lesion, WWE convinced him to reluctantly retire in 2016.
But Bryan has looked for medical opinions from different doctors, and believes he could very well win up in the ring again. Bryan raised eyebrows when he told Sports Illustrated that if he doesn't "wrestle by WrestleMania, (he), probably won’t be wrestling with WWE at all."
News flash: WrestleMania 34 is less than three months away, so the clock is ticking on Bryan's chances of fighting in a WWE ring again. In a dream world, Bryan returns and wins the Royal Rumble pay-per-view on Jan. 28.
But according to Matt Fowler of IGN.com, there are rumors of Bryan actually winning the Royal Rumble. Fowler reported that the odds of Bryan winning the event jumped from 66/1 down to 10/1.
As you all know, Bryan appears to be entering a feud with SmackDown live commissioner, Shane McMahon. While Vince's son feuds with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, Bryan has seemingly favored the two best friends. There have been rumblings of a Bryan-McMahon feud at WrestleMania 34 - so a Royal Rumble victory could easily help set this up.
Only a handful of superstars have been confirmed for the Rumble, so there are bound to be a few surprise entries - as there usually are. Bryan could return, and even if he doesn't win, still set up the road to WrestleMania feud with Shane O'Mac.
The vast majority of the WWE Universe have prayed and dreamed of a Bryan reunion. Something must be happening if his odds to win the 30-man battle jumped up so much.
