Kofi Kingston was among the most popular in WWE, but it always felt as though the company was never going to give him a real main event push.

But that all changed here in 2019, when WWE decided to pit him against WWE Champion Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35. Vince McMahon had tried numerous times to screw Kingston numerous times in his quest to land a title opportunity, but the latter could not be stopped.

When all was said and done, Kingston had successfully pinned Bryan to win the WWE Championship for the first time in his career. Kingston had just completed the ultimate feel-good story while catapulting to the top of the main event card.

So what made WWE decide to give Kingston a well-deserved push after spending over a decade in the mid-card division? The former WWE Champion detailed on After The Bell (h/t Fightful.com) that is was actually Bryan who pushed hard for him to get a big push at WrestleMania.

"[Daniel Bryan] pushed for that to happen," Kingston said. "The plans weren't for me to be at WrestleMania. I'm not sure who it was for Daniel to face, but Daniel went in and went to bat for me and the situation and the title match for us to happen."

"He had a big part in it too. It's a testament to his state of mind as far as advancing the business and doing the right thing for the people and best product. I give a lot of credit to Daniel Bryan, who I think is legitimate, like a generational talent. It meant so much more because Bryan was so hot and Bryan is just so damn good in the ring, on the mic, with his character. He was so giving with the build to the story that it meant more."

While some WWE legends developed reputations for refusing to lose to certain talents (we know who they are), Bryan did the complete opposite. He was selfless in his feud with Kingston, doing everything he could to help the latter get over as a main event talent once and for all.

Kingston's run as the WWE Champion was a massive success, but it came to a vastly disappointing end when Brock Lesnar defeated him on the Oct. 4 episode of SmackDown Live. Big E even admitted that he "was irate" after learning how Kingston was going to drop the title.

This Is What Makes Bryan A WWE Treasure

Not all major WWE superstars are willing to push and help others get over, but Bryan did so here with Kingston. It's things like this that make Bryan such a beloved wrestler - in and out of the ring - and you know Kingston will be forever grateful for everything Bryan did to help him enjoy a career moment.
