Dean Ambrose has been out of action since December after suffering a torn triceps injury, but the former WWE Champion appears to be getting slightly closer to a return.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com is reporting that 'The Lunatic' was recently spotted at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, rehabbing the injury that's kept him out for over a half-year now. But so far, there is no timeline on a possible return.

As Johnson noted, WWE ruled out Ambrose out of action for nine months, and it's already been six. If that timeline is accurate, we'll see Ambrose return by early September - which would mean missing out on SummerSlam.

Ambrose's injury came just a couple of months after The Shield had reunited. Jason Jordan stepped in to replace Ambrose and would team up with Seth Rollins to win the Raw Tag Team Championships. However, Jordan underwent neck surgery and has been sidelined since February and has yet to return.

Following Jordan's absence, Rollins and Roman Reigns went their own ways in separate feuds, and Shield's reunion didn't last long at all. When Ambrose returns, it'll be interesting to see if WWE decides to reunite the trio again, or if the long-rumored Ambrose heel turn takes place.

WWE was hit hard by injuries in 2017, with Big Cass suffering a torn ACL and missing eight months of action, while a string of injuries caused Samoa Joe to miss both the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 34. On top of that, Jeff Hardy missed a half-year of action following a shoulder injury - which he suffered in September.

But with the exceptions of Ambrose and Jordan, most of WWE's top superstars are healthy and going strong. When these two return, it'll open up some more opportunities for bigger and better feuds on Raw.
