There's plenty of speculation going around that WWE Hall of Famer Edge is on the verge of making a miraculous comeback to the ring.

The former World Champion was forced to retire nine years ago, due to a serious neck injury that could have led to paralysis or even death, if Edge had decided to continue his in-ring career.

Of course, the Rated-R Superstar has shut down any speculation that he's about to return on numerous occasions. Still, the ongoing rumors about a return to the ring have been difficult to ignore

Mike Johnson of PW Insider Elite audio (h/t Ringside News) added some more interesting input on Edge's contract situation with WWE. Johnson suggested that the Ultimate Opportunist's new deal is more than a legends contract.

"We’ve been told that Edge signed a new deal," Johnson said. "We’ve been told that it has a very nice upside to it financially and you have to think it’s not just a legends deal where they just have him show up and have him do promos. So, I think there’s more smoke to the fire with Edge than there is with Paige as we record this."

Things are only getting more interesting as the Royal Rumble event draws closer. The rumor going around is that we'll see Edge make an illustrious return at the 30-man showdown in two weeks.

On last week's episode of Monday Night Raw, Randy Orton ran a promo where he was discussing the possibility of having to retire due to an injury, but it turned out to be nothing more than bait on AJ Styles, whom he proceeded to attack. Orton had cited Edge's early retirement during the speech, and this was apparently a hint at the latter's possible return.

We'll simply have to wait and see how things play out with Edge. Even though he's been quick to shut down the reports of a return, many credible wrestling reporters think it's about to happen. Only time will tell.

The Plot Continues To Thicken

Could Edge make an unlikely return to professional wrestling, nine lengthy years after he had to hang up the boots in the first place? There are more and more indications that it's about to happen. For what it's worth, he was ruled out as a potential opponent for Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36, but perhaps Edge will perform a short match where he doesn't have to take any serious bumps? We'll get our answer soon enough.
