Sami Zayn hasn't competed in many matches ever since he returned from double shoulder surgery, instead working as a trash talker on behalf of Shinsuke Nakamura.
Zayn is one of the top mid-card talents on WWE, and he remains as popular as ever with his clever microphone skills. So why hasn't the former NXT Champion been taking part in any matches as of late?
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Ringside News), Zayn still has some problems with the shoulders. That said, Zayn is reportedly "okay" and is capable of wrestling. But for the time being, WWE is content with where he stands with Nakamura.
After losing to Bobby Lashley at last year's Money in the Bank pay-per-view, Zayn underwent surgery and wouldn't wrestle another match for 11 months. He lost an Intercontinental Championship match to Finn Balor on the Apr. 8 episode of Raw, and he competed in several singles and tag team bouts over the next three months.
However, Zayn has only wrestled four matches since August, the last one taking place against Roman Reigns on Sept. 24.
As of this moment, the match would pit Nakamura (the Intercontinental Champion) against United States Champion AJ Styles and NXT North American Champions Roderick Strong. Of course, it's possible that either title could change hands between now and Survivor Series.
WWE Must Let Zayn Wrestle Again Soon
WWE seems to be pleased with Zayn's performance as a talker for Nakamura, and there's no denying the two are working together nicely. But at some point, they're going to have to use Zayn in a wrestling role again, because he's too talented to remain in a managing role over the long run. Zayn has incredible in-ring abilities, and there are countless ways WWE could use him. Perhaps we'll even see him go up against Nakamura down the road.
