2018 has barely started. Only a few days into the new year, there may already be glimpses of who might be the WWE’s next big project or talent to carry the ball. With rumors of new talents coming in, popular talents taking the next step, or stars ready for superstardom, 2018 could be the year that a few talents seize a golden opportunity.
Who on the current Raw roster has the best chance to be a major player? Are there any talents that might be able to finally jump that hurdle, debut and solidify their claim as the next big thing or finally cement their legacy?
We’re merely making early predictions, but here are the five names of WWE talents who could be early candidates for best wrestler of 2018?
The WWE is clearly behind Asuka and turning her into the most dominant female wrestler in the history of the WWE. She spent her entire tenure in NXT as an undefeated in-ring talent and since her arrival to Raw, has been unstoppable, walking through, with relative ease, everyone on the Raw roster she’s come face-to-face with.
When she handled the current champion in Alexa Bliss just recently on Raw, the signs were obvious 2018 was going to be the year of Asuka in the WWE.
Fans have been hoping for some time that Cesaro will finally get his push as a single’s competitor and to his defense, he’s been tremendous as a tag team specialist, but there’s going to come a time that he’ll get a real shot and when he does, he has all the tools to make the most of it.
That time may come sooner than later if there is any truth to the rumors that Sheamus (his current partner) is suffering from a pretty severe injury that could affect his long-term wrestling future. If Sheamus moves to the side at all in 2018, watch out for Cesaro.
It’s a matter of time before Ronda Rousey debuts. It could be as soon as the Royal Rumble and if it is, expect it to be the moment of the night. WWE will put all their resources and time into making Rousey a bigger star than anyone in the company, especially considering her background and pedigree as an existing star from the MMA world.
To put it mildly, even if it takes another few months for Rousey to finalize her deal in WWE and if she doesn’t debut until WrestleMania, she could still have the biggest year of any talent in WWE.
The only real “Monster” in the WWE is Braun Strowman. He’s taken the WWE by storm in the last year and, even more so than Brock Lesnar, he’s the one competitor that seems next to impossible to beat. That he hasn’t won the WWE Title yet is surprising to many.
Strowman will get that opportunity to run with the ball in 2018 and when he does, it could take a miracle to take the title from him. He’s dangerous when he wants something. Imagine what he’d be like when he doesn’t want to lose something.
He’s currently the man and there’s no reason to suggest he won’t be the man in 2018. While fans started 2017 with pure hatred for the fact that WWE was pushing him to the moon, fans ended the year realizing they have a huge amount of respect for what he does and how he performs. It didn’t hurt that they loved The Shield and without Reigns, there is no Shield.
He’s already shown he’s capable of having top-notch matches with a match of the month candidate with Samoa Joe already under his belt. The Intercontinental Title is only the start of things for Reigns in 2018.
