The Rated-R Superstar has mixed it up with some of the all-time greats in the WWE. Edge's rivalries have ensured his spot in the WWE Hall of Fame. Edge is one of the greatest superstars of all-time, and the 11-time World champion had a premature retirement in 2011. Defying the odds, he made his triumphant return to the WWE at the 2020 Royal Rumble.

Before Edge's first retirement, he had some amazing matches with his toughest rivals. The storylines were some of the best in history, which is a testament to Edge's dedication to the business. Whether as a face or a heel Edge has always delivered.

10 Chris Jericho

Edge took on Jericho at WrestleMania 26 for the World Heavyweight title

There is one man that Edge has a lot in common with and that is Chris Jericho. Both men are Canadian, Grand Slam, Triple Crown Winners, and both had massive egos. The two won the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship in June 2009 and were on Smackdown but unfortunately, Edge would suffer an Achilles injury which brought a halt to their partnership prematurely.

Whilst on the shelf, Jericho would replace Edge with Big Show as his new partner. The Rated R-Superstar returned at the 2010 Royal Rumble and quickly turned face. Edge won the Rumble but was unsuccessful in challenging Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight title at WrestleMania 26. Their feud culminated at Extreme Rules with Edge winning a steel cage match, which was a lot better than their WrestleMania encounter.

9 Christian

Edge and Christian were no more in the latter part of 2001

2001 was the year where Edge was transitioning into singles competition. He won the King of the Ring and the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam from Lance Storm. His first major feud was with none other than Christian. The former seven-time WWF Tag Team champions went their separate ways as Christian could not contain his jealousy any longer.

On the September 3rd, 2001 episode of Monday Night Raw, Christian snapped and smashed the King of the Ring trophy on Edge. The two had an entertaining feud over the Intercontinental Championship, which was good for both. They traded the Intercontinental Title at Unforgiven and No Mercy. An underrated Cage Match at Rebellion in 2001 was another bout between the two Canadians.

8 Mick Foley

Edge v Mick Foley in 2006

The rivalry between Edge and Mick Foley was born when Foley was the guest referee in Edge's WWE Championship match with John Cena on an episode of Raw. Cena retained the title but Edge was far from happy with Foley. Their feud was taken to the next level at WrestleMania 22 in a hardcore match.

The Hardcore Legend was seeking his WrestleMania moment but it would be to no avail. In one of the most picturesque moments at WrestleMania, Edge speared Foley through a flaming table for the win. Both men were battered and bloodied but that night was where The Rated-R Superstar gained respect from many for his toughness.

7 Kurt Angle

Another outstanding rivalry between Edge and Angle in 2002

"You Suck," the chant associated with Kurt Angle, is something Edge deserves credit for as he started it. Regardless of whether Angle was a face or a heel, fans would shout it every time he stepped foot in an arena. Angle and Edge, former allies, began feuding at the tail-end of 2001. Edge would defeat the Olympic Gold medalist to win the United States Championship.

Their feud went on a brief halt but resumed in the spring of 2002. Angle got his revenge by defeating Edge at Backlash but the culmination of their rivalry was at Judgment Day. The two faced off in a Hair vs Hair match, which Edge won and had the honors of shaving Angle's head bald.

6 Batista

Edge and Batista clashed in 2007

In 2007, Edge was the World Heavyweight champion and he had a feud with former champion Batista. The Rated-R Superstar moved from Raw to Smackdown. This was a new rivalry for both men and something for Edge to sink his teeth into as Batista was a credible threat. The Ultimate Opportunist would defeat The Animal at Judgment Day, One Night Stand, and Vengeance: Night of Champions. Of course, Edge used his heel tactics to his advantage to get the better of Batista.

Both men would carry Smackdown for the majority of the year with The Undertaker added to the fray. The Master Manipulator would end the year as World Heavyweight Champion, returning to the company from a pectoral muscle injury that ruled him out for five months.

5 Jeff Hardy

Edge and Jeff Hardy's rivalry was taken to the next level in 2009

Jeff Hardy and Edge's rivalry in 2009 was taken to new heights. Hardy and Edge revolutionized the TLC and Ladder match with the Dudley Boyz, Hardy's brother Matt and Edge's best friend Christian. Nevertheless, Edge was a certified main eventer for the past three years, and Hardy finally joined the party.

They had a disappointing WWE Championship encounter at the 2009 Royal Rumble. At Extreme Rules, they put on a great showing in a Ladder match for the World Heavyweight title which Hardy won. The pair brought out the best in each other, which is why both men have had niggling injuries over the years from their physical encounters, which made their rivalry exciting.

4 Randy Orton

Rated RKO implode

Randy Orton had the privilege of being Edge's first major rival in his return to the WWE. The former tag team champions first clashed back in 2004. Edge ended Orton's seven-month reign as Intercontinental champion. The two would feud briefly again in 2010 but it did not catch fire.

Edge and Orton are both outstanding workers and are good storytellers, which made their feud feel real. The Rated R-Superstar defeated Orton at WrestleMania 36 in his first match back in nine years. Orton would gain revenge in the "Greatest Wrestling Match Ever." Their feud has always made both look strong which is a credit to their ability. A third match is certainly on the cards once Edge returns, and it could be for the WWE Championship should Orton be champion.

3 Matt Hardy

Edge and Matt real-life feud

Real-life animosity always makes storylines better. Edge and Matt Hardy's rivalry in 2005 was one of the greatest feuds in the modern era. It was like a soap opera fueled with drama as The Rated R-Superstar began an affair with Hardy's girlfriend Lita. Hardy was fuming, which led to his unfair dismissal from WWE.

Fans chanted for Hardy's return, and he was quickly reinstated. Both men would brawl in crowds and have physical matches which made fans think that the two truly hated each other. Edge won their match at SummerSlam but Hardy won a month later at Unforgiven. Their feud ended in a Loser Leaves Raw Ladder match where Edge came out on top. This rivalry is always remembered more for what happened off-screen than on-screen.

2 The Undertaker

Edge and Taker headlined WrestleMania in 2008

Edge's best rivalry during his time on Smackdown in 2008 was with The Undertaker. The two headlined WrestleMania 24, which was Edge's only main event at WrestleMania. Edge lost the World Heavyweight Championship to The Phenom and the rematch at Backlash.

The Ultimate Opportunist would regain the title at One Night Stand in a TLC match. Their feud would finally come to an end in a Hell in a Cell match at SummerSlam. Edge's feud with The Undertaker was always a treat to watch. Both men are incredible workers, and the two had good in-ring chemistry together.

1 John Cena

Edge's greatest rival is John Cena

John Cena is no doubt Edge's best rival. This feud put Edge on the map as a legitimate World Championship level contender. The two would have an ongoing rivalry for three years with the WWE and World Heavyweight Titles always involved in their feud. The height of their rivalry was in 2006 when Edge would finally become WWE Champion for the first time after cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase.

Edge as a heel was perfect in his role with Cena, and the majority of the time had the fans on his side. This feud did wonders for both men's careers as they were evenly matched. Their encounters at Unforgiven 2006 and Backlash 2009 were unforgettable classics.
