Elias has been off of television for a month after suffering an ankle injury, but the best singer on the WWE roster is reportedly closing in on a return.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t WrestlingInc.com), Elias should be back in action some time in late October - a couple of weeks after the WWE draft takes place on the 11th and 14th.

Elias had defeated Ali in the King of the Ring quarter-finals, and he was slated to face Chad Gable with a trip to the finals on the line. But Elias suffered an ankle injury and had to be pulled from the tournament, and SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon replaced him.

Gable would defeat Shane O'Mac in the match, locking down a spot in the final - though he fell to Baron Corbin on the Sept. 16 episode of Raw. Elias had also won the 24/7 Championship twice in August, and one has to think he'll re-enter the picture once he's back in the ring.

WWE has been hit hard with the injury bug as of late. Bobby Lashley has been out for a couple of months now as he continues to recover from an undisclosed injury. Meanwhile, Drew McIntyre is expected to be back soon - having undergone surgery on a minor injury surgery that he suffered while competing in Mexico.

Nia Jax, Mickie James and Jinder Mahal have also missed ample time with serious injuries. Jax required surgery on both her knees after WrestleMania 35 and has been out of action ever since. Mahal also required knee surgery, and WWE reported three months ago that he'd miss six months to a year of action. And finally, James also required knee surgery in July, and it's unknown when she'll return.

What Elias' Return Means

Elias was bouncing around from feud to feud prior to his injury. It's quite likely that he'll continue to clash with R-Truth and others for the 24/7 Championship. Of course, he could also move to Raw in the upcoming WWE draft. At either rate, Elias' return will strengthen the mid-card division - thanks to his wonderful and thoughtful singing concerts - no matter which brand he's on.
