On this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Braun Strowman, Elias and John Cena all qualified for the Elimination Chamber match for the Feb. 25 pay-per-view, and there are three spots that need to be filled.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins will also be taking part in the match. The sixth person is currently unknown – as a neck injury to Jason Jordan will force him to miss the Elimination Chamber.
The winner of the match will go on to face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans. But the common belief is that Reigns will win and take on The Beast Incarnate at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. This has bee the rumored match for nearly a full year, and we all know that WWE is pushing Reigns to be the next face of the company.
With Strowman, PWInsider reported that he could team up with Ronda Rousey to face Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in a mixed tag-team match at WrestleMania. That is, if The Rock (Rousey’s planned partner), isn’t available to compete this year. Tough to see how WWE books Strowman to win the Elimination Chamber, if he’s The Rocks understudy.
With Cena only being a part-timer and Elias still not ready for main event status, it’d be a major surprise to see either of those men win. As for Rollins, some rumors have suggested he and Jordan are going to break up in the near future, so it’s also unlikely The Architect emerges victorious.
Love him or hate him, Reigns looks destined to headline WrestleMania for a fourth consecutive year. If WWE had him “retire” The Undertaker and defeat Cena and Strowman in 2017, the creative team will certainly not hesitate to have him face Lesnar on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
