She's been trying and trying to win the NXT Women's Title and coming up short. Finally, at NXT Takeover: WarGames, Ember Moon was able to overcome, and against three other female competitors, won the NXT Women's Championship and realized her dream.
It was a big moment for both Ember Moon and NXT and to signal the importance of the change, William Regal and Asuka came into the ring to present Ember Moon with her new title. Asuka was the former NXT Women's Champion for an extended period of time, setting records and dominating the women's division. She essentially passed the torch to Moon and raised the new champion's hand in celebration of her victory.
It was a great match that showcased all the female combatants, but when all was said and done, Moon hit Peyton Royce and Nikki Cross with the Eclipse, pinning Cross before anyone else could interfere.
NXT Takeover: WarGames has included some great matches but up to the point the title changed hands, nothing extremely newsworthy or significant had happened. Moon's victory has been the highlight of the show.
Moon will go on to try and defend her title against all comers, and if she can even perform half as well as Asuka did, then it would have to be considered a huge success. Moon's next opponent is uncertain but it will be interesting to see where WWE and NXT go with her run. Is she a talent the company sees big things in? Or, is she someone holding on to the belt on a temporary basis?
Update: Andrade Cien Almas has won the NXT Heavyweight Championship. I guess NXT was saving the good stuff for the last half of the show.
