Eric Bischoff once came this-close to taking down Vince McMahon and his WWE empire. Two decades later, he’ll be showing up at the Raw 25th Anniversary special, according to a report by Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com.
As Johnson noted, this will be the first time Bischoff appears on WWE programming since 2007—when he made an appearance for Raw‘s 15-year Anniversary. He previously worked as the general manager of Raw from 2002 to 2005 but was “fired” by Vince in storyline. Bischoff was then dumped into a garbage truck and driven away.
Along with Bischoff, the legendary commentating duo of Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler are set for a reunion. Kevin Nash, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, D-Generation X and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin are among the many other wrestling legends that will make an appearance.
Bischoff was on top of the wrestling world in the ’90s, turning the WCW promotion into the most watchable in the United States. Due to the mainstream success of his brand, Bischoff nearly took down Vince McMahon and the WWF powerhouse.
However, a handful of mistakes by WCW let to their ultimate downfall, and Bischoff was fired from his position. Though he was instrumental in building up the New World Order faction and turning Hulk Hogan heel, Bischoff gave too much creative control to his main stars – which led to backstage drama that led to a sinking of the company.
Other stars feuded with Hogan, which led to his controversial departure from the company in 2000. Bischoff also had a well-documented real-life rivalry with Ric Flair, which led to The Nature Boy stepping away from WCW for long periods.
After McMahon bought out WCW, the world was shocked when he introduced Bischoff as the new GM of Raw. But the former WCW mastermind turned out to be a fine addition to the WWE and more than deserves his invitation to celebrate Raw 25.
