Eva Marie has, for the most part, stayed out of the spotlight sine departing from the WWE last summer.
Marie recently wrote an article for InStyle, Marie opened about an addiction that’s taken over her life. Marie called herself an alcoholic, and confessed that the problems have “destroyed relationships” and have affected family members.
Marie also admitted that she feels she will be an “alcoholic for the rest of her life,” and she has suffered relapses. On the bright side, Marie did say that coming to terms with herself being an alcoholic did save her life.
In the piece, Marie did go into detail about how she’s found happiness. She’s married to Jonathan Coyle since 2014, and continues to attend A.A. meetings as she tries to follow the 12-step program that alcoholics are required to take.
The former WWE women’s star deserves plenty of credit for being able to open up about her struggles – which is the first step for anyone battling addiction.
According to reports, Marie and the WWE mutually agreed to part ways. She did receive a 30-day suspension for violating the company’s wellness policy, but it was never revealed if her addiction to alcohol led to the departure.
WWE has sponsored rehab for some of its past superstars, including Jeff Jarrett, Scott Hall, Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts and others. There aren’t any details about if the WWE has been involved in Marie’s treatment for her alcohol addiction.
Unfortunately, there is a very long list of past WWE superstars who have dealt with alcohol and drug addictions in the past. The WWE has since implemented a wellness policy to try and prevent such issues, while also suspending those who violate the rules.
For Marie, we can only hope that she continues to fight against her addiction, and she continue to find happiness. Nobody deserves to go through such a personal struggle, especially when it’s affecting the loves ones around them.
