10 Bret Hart vs Yokozuna (WrestleMania 9)

The first billed WrestleMania main event for Bret Hart came at WrestleMania 9. Hart defended the WWE Championship against Royal Rumble winner Yokozuna in an uneventful match. Yokozuna was limited in the ring and Hart couldn’t get a better match out of him on this night.

The finish would see Yokozuna win to end Bret’s short reign. To make matters worse, Hulk Hogan came out after the match to challenge and defeat Yokozuna. Hart not only looked weak against Yokozuna, but Hogan made him look like a fool by finding a way to end the night as WWE Champion.

9 Battle royal (WrestleMania 4)

Bret Hart competed as a singles competitor in the WrestleMania 4 battle royal. The match opened the show as fans used to love battle royals more in the 80s for the unpredictable nature of everyone trying to eliminate each other to be the last man standing.

Bad News Brown and Hart both worked together as heels until later in the match when they turned on each other. The win would go to Brown after eliminating Bret last. Despite losing the match, Bret was able to showcase some of his potential as a singles performer.

8 Bret Hart vs Vince McMahon (WrestleMania 26)

The return of Bret Hart to WWE in 2010 allowed him to make peace with Shawn Michaels in real life and on television. Vince McMahon however kept the storyline of him and Hart having issues alive for a WrestleMania 26 attraction match.

Almost thirteen years of drama played out with Bret finally getting the chance for redemption after the Montreal Screwjob. The match was nothing to write home about since Hart was no longer an active performer and McMahon never had the athletic grace of most wrestlers.

7 Bret Hart vs Bob Backlund (WrestleMania 11)

The rivalry between Bret Hart and Bob Backlund saw them mixing it up at a few major shows of the New Generation Era. Backlund was the one to end Hart’s 1994 WWE Championship reign with the help of Owen Hart in an “I Quit” match.

Despite losing the title after a few days to Diesel, Backlund was still a target of Bret looking to get revenge at WrestleMania 11. Another “I Quit” match took place on the show with Hart scoring the win this time in a solid match.

6 NFL vs WWE Battle Royal (WrestleMania 2)

WWE tried hard to make WrestleMania a blockbuster event in the early years by adding a few celebrities to the show. NFL stars would become part of a major WrestleMania 2 putting the football players against WWE wrestlers in a large battle royal.

Bret Hart was once again a huge part of the battle royal early into his WWE career. The final two wrestlers in the match were Hart and Andre the Giant. WWE trusted Bret to go deep into the match as one of the smartest performers. Andre scored the win to add to his legacy.

5 Bret Hart vs Yokozuna (WrestleMania 10)

WrestleMania 10 featured two matches from Bret Hart and Yokozuna each. Their second match came in the main event for the WWE Championship for the second year in a row. Hart did a better job this time leading Yokozuna to the best match of his career.

This night cemented Bret as the new face of WWE when defeating Yokozuna to become the new WWE Champion. The face locker room came to the ring and held Hart in the air as a perfect visual to end the show after he scored a surprisingly entertaining match with Yokozuna.

4 Bret Hart vs Roddy Piper (WrestleMania 8)

One of the first huge singles matches for Bret Hart in his WWE career came at WrestleMania 8 against Roddy Piper for the Intercontinental Championship. WWE split up the Hart Foundation tag team when fans started gravitating towards Bret.

The match with Piper put him against an established top name for a respected title. Both men put their all into the match to make it one of the best of their respective careers. Hart won the match in an instant classic with fans now looking at him as a bigger star moving forward.

3 Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels (WrestleMania 12)

WWE went all in on the work rate by having Bret Hart defend the WWE Championship against Shawn Michaels in the first-ever Iron Man match at WrestleMania 12. Michaels and Hart were the two best workers in the industry at the time and were given a full hour.

The match made Michaels a top-level superstar when having the classic with Bret on the biggest stage. Michaels winning his first WWE Championship in such memorable fashion made him a major star for the company and started the rivalry with Hart for the world title.

2 Bret Hart vs Owen Hart (WrestleMania 10)

Bret Hart’s first of two matches at WrestleMania 10 saw him facing off with his brother Owen Hart in the opening match. Owen turned on Bret a few months prior at the Royal Rumble to officially become one of the most hated heels on the roster.

Both Hart brothers created magic on this night with an iconic match. The back and forth showed the perfect mix of in-ring action and storytelling. Owen pulled off the upset for the biggest victory of his career. The night started with Owen defeating Bret but ended with him staring in jealousy at Bret winning the WWE Championship.

1 Bret Hart vs Steve Austin (WrestleMania 13)

The best match from Bret Hart at WrestleMania changed the wrestling industry forever. Steve Austin faced off with Hart in a submission match at WrestleMania 13 with Ken Shamrock as the special guest referee making the jump from UFC.

Bret and Austin had an incredible rivalry that culminated on this night with the double turn of Hart now being a heel and Austin becoming the hottest face in the company. The violent masterpiece both made Austin a superstar and established the greatness of Bret adding to each of their legacies.
