In theory, a finishing move will normally be so devastating that the opponent cannot kick out, or in the case of a submission, have no choice but to tap out. However, some wrestler's signature moves do not look devastating, yet they are still very effective.

For fans of the business, it is easy to look past the effectiveness of a move for the sake of entertainment and individuality, but for purists, finishing moves often do not look credible enough to win the match with. For some, wrestling finishers can look so lame that it takes them out of the spectacle of the match, but others can look past the silliness and appreciate the moves regardless of however effective they might look.

10 Leg Drop

Hulk Hogan's leg drop is one of the most famous finishing moves in the history of wrestling. Hogan would normally cup his ear to the crowd for a reaction, hit the ropes and then drop the leg on his opponent.

Hogan beat Andre the Giant, Randy Savage, Yokozuna, and Triple H amongst others with this move. It was hardly the most devastating physically, but it proved highly effective.

9 People's Elbow

The Rock hit countless superstars with his trademark People's Elbow throughout the years. The People's Champion would usually hit a spinebuster on his opponent, stand over them in the middle of the ring, chuck his elbow pad into the crowd, hit both ropes and then drop an elbow.

Although this move was highly over with the crowd, it was essentially just an elbow drop from a standing position. It proved very effective, however, as The Rock won countless matches with this move. The Rock Bottom was a better looking move by far.

8 Khali Chop

The sheer size of The Great Khali was enough to make any move look devastating. He was, of course, very limited in the ring, and so he had to make use of his huge size.

This manuever was essentially Khali chopping his opponent in the head with the side of his hand. Anyone that Khali hit with this move would become incapacitated. It was at times the finish to a match. The chop was effective but it looked lame and did not help audiences buy into the character.

7 Gorilla press and splash

The Ultimate Warrior's finisher was an incredibly effective move, but it did not look devastating. Warrior would hoist his opponent above his head in and drop them to the floor before hitting both ropes and splashing his opponent.

This was the move that defeated many WWE and WCW stars in the '90s, most notably Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania VI. For a superstar with the size and power of the Warrior, you'd think he'd have a better move in his arsenal than a press slam and a splash.

6 Mandible Claw

Mick Foley was one of the most beloved superstars of all time. His matches with the likes of Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and Triple H are legendary, but his finishing move was not exactly one that was worthy of a main eventer like himself.

Foley would force his middle and ring fingers under the tongue of his opponent and put pressure under the bottom of their mouth, often leading to his opponents passing out. Later this move would be known as Mr. Socko, as Foley would pull a sock from inside his pants and put it on his hand before performing it. This move was highly effective on those who fell victim to it, but in reality, it is a move that could quite easily be countered by opponents.

5 Heart Punch

The Heart Punch certainly sounds like an effective finishing manuver. It involves a superstar hitting his opponent in the chest region, or the heart, knocking them down to the canvas. This move was utilized at different times by the Undertaker, Crush and Stan Stasiak, amongst others.

This was often the move that would keep opponents down for the 3 count, but a punch to the chest is pretty lame for a finishing move. Although this was a painful-looking move, it should never have been the finish to a match.

4 Samoan Spike

The Samoan Spike was a move performed by the late Umaga. The move would involve him ramming his thumb into the throat of his opponents.

Umaga defeated many WWE superstars with this move in his rampage through the Raw roster in 2007, but his finisher was unspectacular. A man simply ramming his thumb into his opponent's throat was not a move worthy of such an impressive athlete who performed it. Umaga had many great offensive weapons in his arsenal, this was not one of them.

3 KO punch

Later in his WWE career, The Big Show performed the Knock Out or KO punch. This move would quite simply involve him knocking his opponents out with a closed punch to the jaw.

Technically this move should have been illegal under the rules of wrestling, but nonetheless, Big Show beat many superstars with it. What made this move lame is that it takes away from the spectacle of pro wrestling. If a simple punch is enough to win a match then it defeats the purpose of wrestlers performing moves on one another.

2 Wasteland

Wasteland was a move that Wade Barrett defeated many superstars with during his time in the WWE. The move would involve Barrett getting his opponent in a fireman's carry position before slamming them forward to the canvas.

This move simply did not look as impressive as the two other fireman's carry based moves at the time; the Attitude Adjustment and the Go To Sleep. It was effective for Barrett but not a move that will live long in the memory of wrestling fans, even with Barrett returning to the company as a commentator recently.

1 Iron Claw

BroMans and Kevin Von Erich

The Iron Claw was a move made famous by the Von Erich family, most notably in World Class Championship Wrestling. The move would essentially see one of the Von Erich's grab the head of their opponent with the hand.

Although this move was hardly devastating, it was often used to devastating effect. The Von Erichs made quite a name for themselves in WCCW with this move and were huge fan favorites in the '80s.
