There's no question that Finn Balor is basically synonymous with NXT. He was their top star when they were first rising as a brand and held the NXT Title as they grew to host shows in larger venues. With Balor at the helm, it went from developmental to a global entity capable of being WWE's third brand.

Finn Balor's main roster run left a lot to be desired and he found himself back in NXT at the end of last year. Behind Asuka being undefeated, he has the best record in TakeOver history and often delivered great matches.

13 Baron Corbin & Rhyno Vs. Finn Balor & Samoa Joe - TakeOver: Respect

While TakeOver: Respect was headlined by a classic match between Sasha Banks and Bayley, it also played host to the end of the inaugural Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. The finals saw Finn Balor and Samoa Joe take on Baron Corbin and Rhyno.

This is proof that Finn Balor has never had a bad match at a TakeOver. That's because this was a good outing featuring some quality tag team action. It just wasn't anything special. Balor and Joe won to become the first tournament winners.

12 Finn Balor Vs. Samoa Joe - TakeOver: The End

TakeOver: The End represented closure of a few things. First, it was the last TakeOver at Full Sail University until 2020. It also happened to mark the final appearance (to date) of Finn Balor's Demon look in NXT.

He came in hoping to regain his NXT Title against Samoa Joe inside of a steel cage. It felt like a fitting end to their rivalry. Unfortunately, it ended up being their worst match together and remains Balor's only Demon loss.

11 Finn Balor Vs. Timothy Thatcher - TakeOver XXX

The most recent inclusion on this list saw Finn Balor open up a TakeOver. For most of 2020, Balor felt like he was back on the main roster because he was kind of just treading water and not doing much.

That was the case here. Sure, he and Timothy Thatcher had a good outing but it felt rushed and thrown together at the last minute. Thatcher dominated on the mat but Balor found a way to overcome him.

10 Finn Balor & Samoa Joe Vs. The Revival - TakeOver: Respect

Due to the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, Finn Balor pulled double duty at TakeOver: Respect. To make it to the finals against Corbin and Rhyno, he and Samoa Joe had to get past Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson.

This was back when The Revival was on the brink of becoming an established team. They showed their skills off against two of NXT's top stars. They didn't come out with a win but they let the world know who they were.

9 The Ascension Vs. Finn Balor & Hideo Itami - TakeOver: R-Evolution

Finn Balor as the Demon

It's the TakeOver debut of Finn Balor! He actually arrived in NXT the previous month to assist his friend Hideo Itami against former NXT Tag Team Champions, The Ascension. That led to this tag match.

The atmosphere was special because it was here that Balor debuted the Demon. The Ascension had no idea what they had just seen and it threw them off their game. Balor got the win and a star was born.

8 Finn Balor Vs. Matt Riddle - TakeOver: War Games

When Finn Balor returned to NXT in October 2019, people didn't know what to expect. He shockingly turned heel and seemed poised to face Johnny Gargano but he actually put him on the shelf.

In stepped Matt Riddle to be his next foe. They went out and had a good match but it wasn't all that memorable. Even though it was less than a year ago, people don't seem to recall it.

7 Finn Balor Vs. Samoa Joe - TakeOver: London

The first of three TakeOver singles matches between Samoa Joe and Finn Balor felt like a dream match for many. The whole thing also felt special given the London setting and Balor dressing up as Jack The Ripper.

While this was very good, it lacked some of the intensity that it needed. Joe had turned on Balor and things were personal. This match ended up being a good exhibition that didn't feel like a war.

6 Finn Balor Vs. Tyler Breeze - TakeOver: Unstoppable

Originally, this was scheduled to be a triple threat match. Finn Balor, Hideo Itami, and Tyler Breeze were to compete for a shot at Kevin Owens's NXT Championship. However, it changed at the last minute.

Itami was found attacked in the parking lot and was taken out due to a legitimate shoulder injury. That left Balor and Breeze to go at it. Balor, in Demon paint, jumped off the stage en route to winning.

5 Damian Priest Vs. Finn Balor - TakeOver: In Your House

A lot of fans were unsure of what to expect from this match. Damian Priest had been a solid performer but he had yet to really have that breakout performance. That changed at TakeOver: In Your House.

He took a sickening bump onto steel steps and went toe-to-toe with the former NXT Champion. Priest may not have won but he was able to put his stamp on the brand. It worked as he won the North American Title at the next TakeOver.

4 Finn Balor Vs. Samoa Joe - TakeOver: Dallas

The middle leg of the Finn Balor/Samoa Joe TakeOver trilogy was the best. Finn busted out some sweet Demon gear and wielded a chainsaw during his entrance. Once this started, you could tell how intense it would be.

Joe was busted open almost instantly. Unfortunately, that hindered the match a bit as it kept getting stopped so the referee could check on him. Balor surprised many by retaining in an absolute fight.

Finn Balor hits a Slingblade on Kevin Owens

Finn Balor winning the NXT Championship from Kevin Owens is the highlight of his WWE career. It happened in a classic match in front of a great audience in Japan. Their rematch was on an even bigger stage.

2 Finn Balor Vs. Johnny Gargano - TakeOver: Portland

This was what Balor's return to NXT had been building towards. A battle against the man he put on of action, Johnny Gargano. Both former NXT Champions, Balor has the most TakeOver wins, while Gargano has the most losses.

That trend continued here as Balor bested Gargano. However, this was more about the quality of the match just being something epic. Balor's new vicious style was on display and Gargano did his best not to give up but was outmatched.

1 Adrian Neville Vs. Finn Balor - TakeOver: Rival

Finn Balor's second TakeOver appearance remains his best. He and former NXT Champion Adrian Neville made it to the finals of a tournament to determine a top contender for the NXT Title.

Balor was the Demon but Neville wasn't intimidated. Part of what made this so great was that Balor actually did unique things as the Demon, like stalk Neville around the ring. This wasn't just Finn Balor in paint. He felt like a totally different entity en route to winning.
