When a Superstar finishes wrestling in WWE, it doesn't mean that their career is completely over. There are a number of instances where former wrestlers have made a post-wrestling career either as a writer, producer, road agent or ambassador for WWE. Thank goodness because the average in-ring career doesn't last all that long. If you then consider WWE produces hours and hours of footage each week, holds live events, pay-per-views and original content for WWE Network, you can see how important it is to have a ton of staff working together, many of whom know the industry better than anyone else. Who knows better how to put on a wrestling show than former wrestlers?

Some talents are often in front of the camera but many are working behind the scenes to ensure things run smoothly. It could be the timing of matches, the finish of matches, segments or the training of new talent, but every little detail of a WWE career and each show is planned out making sure the company has the tools it needs to entertain the WWE Universe. There is even a case where a former translator has become a head writer for Raw and SmackDown Live.

Ever wonder where guys like Road Dogg, Kidman, Finlay or the BoogeyMan end up after they stop wrestling? If you haven't spotted them in shows, on the Network of backstage segments, well, we have the answer for you. It's what we call our list of "15 Former Wrestlers Who Quietly Got Other Jobs In WWE".

15 Joey Mercury

via wordpress.com

One half of J & J Security, Joey Mercury appeared often alongside Seth Rollins before Rollins moved on to play the solo act in WWE. Before that, Mercury was a wrestler in a tag team with John Morrison but was released from his WWE contract for issues with drugs and alcohol. He's since rebounded, gotten himself clean and became a big part of the backstage environment in WWE as an agent and producer. He was reportedly released by WWE in January of 2017 since he made some independent wrestling appearances but there is word he's still working with WWE.

There are many who say he was instrumental in helping many in FCW and NXT.

This includes The Shield, and he's close with Rollins and other young roster stars who have been making their way up to the main roster. Mercury's story is really a good one considering he'd almost completely alienated himself from WWE with his personal issues.

14 Billy Kidman

via wwe.com

Billy Kidman rose to fame in WCW as a Cruiserweight but his real name is Pete' Gruner Jr. and he's currently a road agent and producer for WWE. He's actually a pretty big deal as he's responsible for keeping the timing of every WWE show to its required length. That's a huge job considering there are over 13 hours of filming or editing WWE does to get their shows to be three, two or one hour(s) depending on what program.

You don't have to search hard to find Kidman now in WWE.

He's often around to gorilla position, the producer's area or with the talents going over their timing to ensure things are kept in check. He's probably that voice the referees hear as the refs are there to help wrestlers keep their timing.

13 D-Von

via ewrestling.com

He's one-half of the most decorated tag teams in this history of professional wrestling having won more than 20 tag team titles. D-Von and Bubba Ray were given one last run in the company in 2016 and while that didn't pan out too well, when the team left after a year, D-Von was hired on as a backstage producer and agent in WWE.

He recently made mention of this when accepting his place in the 2018 WWE Hall of Fame. Bubba Ray was very vocal about D-Von not having much of a personality and D-Von called for Bubba to cut it out a few times noting that he's now "office" and could get him kicked off the stage if he wanted. D-Von was always the more liked of the two Dudley's.

12 Dean Malenko

via ewrestling.com

He's perhaps one of the most underrated wrestlers in the history of the business having spent time in New Japan, ECW, WCW and then WWE. He was known as the "Man of 1000 holds" and joined up with the New Radicals when Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, and Perry Saturn joined WWE.

Today he's an active road agent for WWE and you'll often see him breaking up fights backstage on WWE programming.

That or perhaps to the ring with a bunch of other guys in suits when things get out of hand during a segment or sitting in a meeting during a segment on a WWE Network program. He's heavily relied upon by WWE thanks to his vast knowledge and wrestling experience. He truly was one of the better wrestlers of his generation.

11 Finlay

via twitter.com

The former Irishman who loves to fight, Finlay is now one of the most trusted backstage producers in WWE. His tenure isn't hiccup-free as he was released for making a poor decision regarding a wrestler disrespecting the national anthem to get heat but WWE forgave him and a year later he was back working his magic with the talent backstage.

There may not be a producer seen in more current clips than Finlay.

He's often lurking in the background of WWE productions on WWE Network, hanging around the ring and helping with match finishes. He's considered a very trusted and respected employee in WWE these days and talent know they can come to him with help should they have any questions. If want proof he's still active, just keep your eyes open during backstage segments.

10 Terry Taylor

via youtube.com

Many fans may remember Terry Taylor as the Red Rooster who was one of WWE's most popular enhancement talents. Ironically, despite losing as often as he did, he was almost given the Mr. Perfect gimmick before it went to Curt Hennig. After retiring from in-ring wrestling, Taylor flopped back and forth as a producer and agent working for WWE, WCW and TNA/Impact Wrestling. He's finally landed with WWE working as a trainer in WWE's developmental territory, NXT.

Taylor knows wrestling well having worked for so many companies over the years and despite the fact that he's up and left companies as an agent and producer on many occasions, he seemed to always land on his feet. He must offer something valuable that these companies, including WWE, keep bringing him back.

9 Shawn Michaels

via PopCulture.com

After getting a haircut that made front-page news in wrestling and being part of the WWE ceremonies a couple weeks ago for WrestleMania 34, it's not much of a secret that Shawn Michaels is a big part of the WWE now in a producer and trainers role. He's mostly working with NXT talent as they try to work their way through the rigors of becoming full-time WWE main roster talents.

Michaels is one of the best wrestlers of all time and his knowledge and experience is unparalleled in the industry.

He's got to be one of the best assets these young guys can have as they try to put on quality matches. It's showing because NXT is considered by many to be a far superior "wrestling show" to Raw and SmackDown Live.

8 Road Dogg

via ewrestling.com

He left WWE under some not so wonderful circumstances and had some drug and alcohol issues to sort out but Road Dogg has since returned and been a huge addition to the producers' team for WWE. He is a big part of helping sort out matches, run the show times and ensures things are running smoothly, often taking the lead when guys like Vince McMahon and Triple H are not able to attend. He's primarily a part of the SmackDown Live show.

It's a far cry from where he was at the end of his time in WWE as a wrestler.

He's publicly said he doesn't remember much from his last few days and Road Dogg has said that WWE literally saved his life after helping him wrestle his demons.

7 Ray Rougeau

via Jean Brassard

There are so many former wrestlers who work with WWE in an announcers or commentators role it's almost unbelievable. Ray Rougeau may be among the most famous often working pay-per-views for the French-Canadian announce team. He was hired for this position in May of 2017. This is what happens when you're as big as WWE and broadcast in so many different countries, you need former talent who know the different languages and the industry to call the matches.

Rougeau rose to fame in the 80's in WWE as part of the Rougeau Brothers and while he was hired for his latest gig in 2017, he's been back and forth with WWE as a commentator and broadcaster since 1992. There was some time off in the 2000's when WWE didn't produce French editions of their programs.

6 Lex Luger

via AL.com

He's never talked about but Lex Luger still works with WWE as a Wellness Counselor. He took the job in 2011 after illness took his ability to wrestle. He described the work he was doing with WWE as a behind-the-scenes wellness figure who can counsel the athletes on nutrition, exercise, and taking care of their bodies. Luger had a great figure, but he was often criticized for being very heavy on performance enhancers to build that figure.

Because today's WWE is so protective of wrestlers not getting into that lifestyle, it helps to have someone who knows the pitfalls. The idea is to try and prevent the young guys from going down the same path as someone like Luger and others did. So many wrestlers died at such a young age it's a tragedy. Luger survived but he's in pretty rough shape and it's easy to understand why he wants to help.

5 Ranjin Singh

via suggest-keywords.com

The former handler, translator or manager of the Great Khali, Ranjin Singh hasn't been seen on tv in ages but he's still very much with WWE. Currently, he's working as a creative writer for the company. His main jobs are writing as a creative editor and segment contributor for Raw and SmackDown Live.

Fans might not think that a small role like that of the translator for Great Khali could have led to such a position backstage but much of what the WWE Universe sees each week on WWE programming, Singh has his hands in. While we're not sure if this is still the case, it has been reported that he's actually the head writer for both Raw and SmackDown Live. That's a huge responsibility if true. That means he reports directly to Vince and Triple H.

4 Mike Rotunda

via whosdatedwho.com/prowrestling.wikia.com

He was first a part of WWE way back when the company launched WrestleMania as Mike Rotundo and he worked a lot as a tag team partner of Barry Windham (he was married to Windham's sister). He left and came back later as Irwin R. Schyster (I.R.S.) when WWE was heavy into characters that were created to represent jobs like a tax auditor. After a mild singles push he was part of a tag team with Money Inc. and later went on to WCW before returning when WCW folded and making the odd appearance for WWE on one-shot deals.

He was hired in 2006 and is still a part-time agent and producer backstage for WWE and likely mentors wrestlers on their performances.

His two sons also work for WWE. One is Bo Dallas and the other is Bray Wyatt, so it's easy to see the apple hasn't fallen too far from the tree.

3 Jamie Noble

via wrestlepundit.com

Another former member of J&J Security, Jamie Noble was forced to retire from in-ring wrestling due to injury but he's one of the most respected guys backstage in WWE. He's currently signed as a producer for WWE making matches, helping talent get through their scheduled spots and segments and just overall, helping WWE Superstars put on their best possible performances.

You can still see Noble today on random WWE shows often popping his head in when the company needs extras to settle the commotion backstage. For example, he was seen helping get Roman Reigns out of the Ambulance Braun Strowman had wrecked during the 2017 Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view. There are few people if any who have anything negative to say about Noble who has quietly stayed with WWE for over 22 years.

2 Matt Bloom

via wrestling-online.com

When Bill DeMott was released as the Head Trainer in NXT, Matt Bloom, who was formerly known as Prince Albert, A-Train or Lord Tensai, was given the job and has held the title ever since. Bloom has vast experience wrestling with WWE under many different gimmicks and spent time in Japan where he became quite a star.

Today he's instrumental in ensuring the newest recruits in WWE are given a fair shot at learning the ropes even with little to no experience.

He works primarily out of the Performance Center in Florida and can be seen backstage at all NXT events coaching "his kids" who he takes great pride in mentoring to become the next generation of WWE Superstars. His role is critical to the WWE's success to keep bringing up new stars.

1 BoogeyMan

via thesportster.com

In what might be the oddest contribution to this list, the BoogeyMan has taken a very different path to his current role in WWE and a brand ambassador. First trying out for Tough Enough, he was disqualified for lying about his age. He was then signed to play a creepy character that was widely recognized as one of the most beloved, but also a guy who couldn't wrestle a lick.

Today he goes around repping the WWE at different events, making appearances and often dressed in his costume. He still returns from time to time on WWE programming because he's perfect for those one-shot deals where something comedic is required. He is currently on a Legends contract with WWE and works part-time as a personal trainer.
