Ring of Honor (ROH) has been in the news a lot lately, and now they're about to debut a former WWE star. From the announcement of a digital streaming service coming in the first quarter of 2018 to the popularity of The Bullet Club, wrestlers like The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and Cody Rhodes, ROH is doing a lot of good things to gain traction and produce revenue.
As that revenue continues to go up, they'll find themselves able to do things they may not have otherwise been able to do in the past. That includes signing former WWE Superstars to debut for the company.
One such debut was recently announced and Ring of Honor put out a vignette for former WWE Superstar, Simon Gotch. He'll be known as Simon Grimm in ROH and will make his debut at their upcoming live event in Florida.
Gotch was last seen in WWE working alongside Aiden English as one half of the tag team The Vaudevillains. The team was marketed as out-of-date carnival strongmen and a throwback to wrestlers who were famous in the 1900s. Their duo was a huge hit in NXT but failed to deliver on the main stage in WWE and as part of the SmackDown Live roster.
Gotch was also speculated to have some issues backstage with some of the talents. There were rumors he got into a heat exchange with Sin Cara and there were allegedly other incidences of him not playing well with others and it could have led to his eventual release from the company.
When asked about his release from the WWE, Gotch described it as, "They brought it to me and I agreed. It was one of those things where I was unhappy, and they basically felt like the character had run its course. I said I agreed, and they said they wanted to exercise the termination clause in my contract. I agreed with that as well and we went from there."
Like many wrestlers before him, Grimm will now get the chance to show what he can do in another environment, that being the increasingly popular ROH.
