Bill Goldberg is one of the most unique figures in the history of pro wrestling, and certainly within his own generation. The guy is a veteran of the business at this stage and has been at the top of the game for over twenty years now, even though he took a substantial break in between.

The former NFL star may not have been the most conventional professional wrestler on the planet, but he certainly knew how to get people talking and he also knew how to get himself over in just about every single way a person can. In this piece, we'll be looking and the pros and the cons of his legendary career.

10 LOVE - Survivor Series Squash

Back in 2016 we saw Goldberg defeat Brock Lesnar in less than 90 seconds, and the whole world stood still. For the better part of two and a half years, Brock had been on one of the biggest pushes we’d ever seen in the history of pro wrestling in the wake of him breaking The Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak.

Then, The Destroyer comes from nowhere and completely flips the script. Everyone was baffled, but in a good way (we think), and it led to a great rivalry that extended to WrestleMania 33.

9 DON’T - Beating Kevin Owens

Unfortunately, one of the pit stops on the road to Orlando came at the Fastlane pay per view. At the event Goldberg was able to defeat Kevin Owens incredibly quickly, capturing the Universal Championship in the process.

It was viewed as the big low point of his WWE return by many, and to be honest, it’s not all that hard to understand why. Owens was red hot at the time and WWE decided to take the belt off of him all for a feud that didn’t really need the title to succeed.

8 LOVE - WCW Run

Goldberg WCW

We all had our first taste of Bill Goldberg during his early days with World Championship Wrestling, where he was dismantling every single wrestler that came into his line of vision. His unbeaten run was the stuff of legends, and it was one of the biggest reasons as to why WCW was able to stay in the hunt against WWE during the Monday Night Wars.

While his time with the company didn’t exactly end well, he still had some of his best days in the business during this time frame.

7 DON’T - Matt Riddle Feud

For some reason, a bizarre feud has developed as of late between Matt Riddle and Goldberg on social media. They recently had a face to face interaction about it, too, which caused many fans to speculate as to whether or not this was actually a legitimate beef that the two men shared.

Regardless of whether or not that’s the case, most members of the WWE Universe have been siding with Riddle on this one. After all, he’s the new flavor of the month down in NXT, whereas Goldberg is noticeably past his prime.

6 LOVE - Entrance

Nothing gets the juices flowing quite like a Goldberg entrance and that is a fact. From the MMA style walkout from the back to the security guards to the actual entrance theme itself, he just knows how to get a crowd hyped up for a big-time match.

Even in his latest run with the company he hasn’t lost the ability to sell this thing in the best way possible. He was a terrifying man for anyone to deal with and he knew that, which is why it was one of his greatest attributes.

5 DON’T - WrestleMania 20

After WrestleMania 20 we all knew Goldberg was going to leave the company, and we all knew that Brock Lesnar was going to leave the company. Therefore, neither man really put in the sort of effort that you’d expect for their match at Madison Square Garden.

When you consider what it could’ve been given that both men were still in their prime, it would be the understatement of the century to suggest that this didn’t live up to the hype. Thankfully, both men went away for quite some time after this.

4 LOVE - Amazing Finishers

They might be simple moves in the eyes of many and they may not be viewed as effective, but the spear and then the jackhammer really does hammer home one point above all others: Goldberg is a bad, bad man and you don’t want to mess with him.

Both moves were protected really well, so it was rare to see anyone kick out from them or even really put up any kind of fight against them. That, in its purest form, is when you know that you’ve got a great finisher.

3 DON’T - Undertaker Match

At WWE Super ShowDown, The Undertaker and Goldberg squared off in what many considered to be a dream match. In many ways, we’d agree with that, but unfortunately, the execution of said match was poor to say the least.

Goldberg seemed to sustain some sort of concussion early on in the bout and from that point on, Taker had to carry pretty much the entire thing. It wasn’t pretty, it was embarrassing, and it’s a shame that they didn’t get the chance to have the sort of bout we’d all have loved to see.

2 LOVE - He’s Believable

Being a believable threat in an industry like professional wrestling is much easier said than done these days, and yet, Bill Goldberg seems to pull it off every single time.

His athletic background probably has something to do with it but beyond that, the guy just knows how to sell himself and knows what it means to be over. He is the personification of a legit star and while we aren’t trying to suggest he’d beat the hell out of everyone backstage in a shoot fight, we do think he’s a scary bloke.

1 DON’T - Bret Hart Injury

Everyone said that Goldberg was too green to get in the ring with Bret Hart, and the Hitman pretty much felt exactly the same way. He told Bill to do everything in his power to avoid hurting him, and when they actually met at Starrcade 1999 in the main event, Goldberg accidentally kicked Hart directly in the head and gave him a pretty severe concussion.

Eventually, it was the injury that led to a definitive end for Hart as an in-ring competitor, and fans have never really forgotten about that.
