Wrestling has always had a real variety of gimmicks, with some being far more serious than others. However, one gimmick that has been used many times throughout wrestling history is the dancing gimmick. It's one that has had very varied success, mainly because it's not always the easiest to take seriously.

However, while many talents have been cursed with a dancing gimmick, others have been able to get over with it. It certainly takes real commitment and a special talent to make a dancing gimmick work in the world of wrestling, but it certainly is possible, even if it isn't easy.

10 Got Over: Honky Tonk Man

Honky Tonk Man

Honky Tonk Man had a little bit of everything within his gimmick from dancing to the guitar to singing. He was obviously a knock-off version of Elvis but the gimmick ended up getting over.

The fact that he was quite limited inside the ring was covered up by how talented he was with character work. Having a Hall of Fame ring proves just how much he managed to get over with the fans, despite his character being quite over the top.

9 Flopped: The Great Khali

The Great Khali had a real fall from grace during his time in WWE, going from a main event monster heel to a dancing Punjabi playboy. The over the top gimmick just didn't work and coupled with the kiss cam segments, it became one of the worst parts of every show it was on.

Khali wasn't a great dancer, which didn't help matters, with his movement being very slow. There was just nothing to take seriously within this gimmick, as Khali would dance, and then that was it, making it utterly pointless.

8 Got Over: The Usos

Nowadays, The Usos are best known for their incredible locked down gimmick where they incorporate trash-talking and really embrace what feels likes their own personalities. The change was huge for them, but the duo had already been a top team prior to that with their dancing gimmick.

The Usos used the Haka to great effect in their entrances which fit their entire gimmicks with the face paint and the way they dressed. It was a huge part of their character and certainly got them over with the fans.

7 Flopped: Brodus Clay

When Brodus Clay re-debuted in WWE following his brief run alongside Alberto Del Rio, becoming the Funkasaurus is not what people had in mind. Turning into a dancer from 'Planet Funk' was a real curveball, and sadly not a good one.

Most assumed Clay would come in as a monster heel, yet WWE caught fans out by having this gimmick. Eventually adding Naomi, Cameron, and Lord Tensai, this didn't really help any of them get over.

6 Got Over: Emma

Emma dancing gimmick

A lot of people might have forgotten the dancing gimmick from Emma, mainly because of how talented she is and what she went on to achieve. However, her goofy dance moves did manage to get over with the audience.

Dancing around through the crowd was something that gave Emma an instant connection to the audience. It allowed her to work on the main roster and showcase her personality which was great to see.

5 Flopped: Extreme Expose

This is a faction that would (thankfully) never happen today, with this seeing three women just head out, do some sensual dances and then leave. A lot of people missed this faction due to it being part of WWE's version of ECW, which wasn't a hit in general.

Seeing Kelly Kelly, Brooke Adams, and Layla all come together, this trio could have created a fun faction if they had the chance. The problem was that there was never any real storyline or reason to care for them. They just danced, and that was it.

4 Got Over: Too Cool

Too Cool

Too Cool was a great example of how a dancing gimmick could easily get over and become a big hit. This trio was incredibly popular during the Attitude Era, having great success within the tag team division.

Each man brought something different to the group but their over the top personalities certainly worked. They were full of charisma and their dancing segments always gained massive reactions from the fans.

3 Flopped: No Way Jose

This was always going to be a very limited gimmick, and that was certainly the case for No Way Jose. He was over the top with his conga line full of different characters, but it didn't translate into being a success.

Outside of his entrance, there was no real reason to be interested in No Way Jose. He was never pushed heavily and therefore he quickly began to fall down the card, especially when he was put on the main roster.

2 Got Over: Fandango

Fandango

The fact that Fandango is still having success in WWE to this day showcases the fact he managed to get over. With ballroom dancing and a ridiculous name, Fandango was given a tough task to get over with the fans.

However, his initial feud with Chris Jericho and a major WrestleMania victory certainly helped. His theme song was sung around the world with 'Fandangoing' becoming a viral trend. He is a great wrestler too, which also helps and his partnership with Tyler Breeze has certainly done wonders for his career.

1 Flopped: Flash Funk

2 Cold Scorpio was a tremendous wrestler who had great ability in the ring, which he proved during his spell with ECW. However, when working for WWE he was transformed into a pimp where he would dance around with two other women.

It was a ridiculous gimmick that didn't work at all. It wasted the talent that Scorpio had, as he could actually have added a lot to the company if he had been allowed to focus on his wrestling.
