The future of professional wrestling, you could argue, lies in the hands of one man: Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque. While that may sound a little bit extreme, tend to believe that it’s true. The Game is set to take over from Vince McMahon as the main man in charge of WWE in the next few years, and what he does with the company could dictate how the rest of the business fares for quite some time.
Alas, while all of that may be incredibly interesting and exciting, it’s nothing compared to some of the feuds that HHH had when he was in his prime.
10 Batista
The Game brought him into the world of WWE, and he took him out of it.
While we don’t agree with HHH going over in their match at WrestleMania 35, it served as a great bookmark for a fantastic rivalry.
From Big Dave’s slow-burn heel turn all to their WrestleMania 21 showdown and beyond, we just loved so much about this feud.
Of course, there were some negative parts along the way as Triple H needed to get the win back, but you can’t have everything when it comes to the graps.
9 Seth Rollins
While it may have taken a year longer than most people would’ve wanted for WWE to get this match booked at WrestleMania, it was certainly worth the wait. The traditional teacher vs student dynamic is always going to be an easy sell, and when push came to shove, HHH was always going to bring out the best in Rollins.
This served as the key turning point for Seth’s tenure as a babyface, and while he has hit a few stumbling blocks along the way, it’s still great to see him at the top of the mountain.
8 Goldberg
Goldberg’s first run with WWE wasn’t exactly perfect and you could even argue it was no good whatsoever, but he still won the World Heavyweight Championship and he still had a few really enjoyable showdowns with Triple H.
He was the kind of big, bad heel that was always going to bring out the best in Bill, which is exactly what he needed after making his way over from WCW.
Again, it wasn’t the best ending to the feud, but we’d be interested in hearing what both men thought of it upon reflection.
7 John Cena
John Cena is one of the best in the business in pretty much every sense of the word, and it’s been that way for well over a decade. One of the first men to really challenge him as he made his journey to the top was Triple H, with the two men squaring off at WrestleMania 22.
It was the kind of Mania title match that Cena needed to keep his progression going, and while the crowd wasn’t all too fond of him by that point, he didn’t really care. He showed a lot of heart and determination, putting on a great match in the process.
6 The Undertaker
When you have three WrestleMania matches with someone, we imagine you build up quite the relationship with them.
Taker and HHH are two of the very best superstars of their generation, and every single time they square off, it really does feel like a big deal.
The End of the Era didn’t really turn out to be all too accurate given that all three men involved in the match would go on to wrestle again, but that bout will forever go down in history as being one of the best in the entire run of The Deadman’s unbeaten streak.
5 Randy Orton
As one of the original members of Evolution, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise for fans to learn that Randy Orton and Triple H have had some pretty great feuds over the years (yes, plural).
The first came when HHH kicked Randy out of Evolution, which should’ve led to a really strong babyface turn. In the end, though, WWE dropped the ball – but they managed to pick it back up again for their WrestleMania 25 feud.
From HHH breaking into Randy’s house to Orton punting Vince and kissing Stephanie, it had it all.
4 Stone Cold Steve Austin
The Game paid Rikishi to run Austin over and the two had one of the best matches of the entire Attitude Era courtesy of the Three Stages of Hell stipulation. What more do we need to say than that?
As partners they were great, but as rivals, we’d argue they were even better. Both men just had such an overwhelmingly great intensity, and that’s what you love to see from two all-time greats in their prime.
Above all else, the one word that we’d use is ‘underrated’ because it really is.
3 Shawn Michaels
They started off as best friends, but gradually, they became the best of rivals. There’s no way of getting around the fact that they hit the peak at SummerSlam 2002, but even the work after that was really strong.
It’s a sign of a really great partnership if you’re able to be great rivals and great friends, and it’s the kind of story you can pick up whenever you want.
Will they square off one more time in a retirement match? It would certainly make sense, and we wouldn’t mind seeing it.
2 The Rock
Two of the biggest stages of their generation in more ways than one. That’s an absolute fact. They’ve even teased having one more match before they hang it up, and we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see it go down.
The Great One and The Game have fought over different titles, across factions, and through different alignments, and they’ve been able to pull off something great pretty much every time.
Magic is created when these two are in the ring together, and you can just tell they’d love to do it all over again.
1 Mick Foley
Mick Foley (and his many different faces) brought out the very best in Triple H, and vice versa.
It had a school bully vs victim kind of feel to it, but over time, they developed into equals. They took one another to the limit in every way a wrestler can, and without one another, they just wouldn’t be the same and their legacies would be entirely different.
Every time they’re in a ring together these days there’s just an overwhelming sense of nostalgia, and in an alternate universe, we’d love to see them fight again.
