Despite 205 Live not currently being in the position that WWE likely envisioned it to be, they are not merely giving up on the cruiserweight show. Vince McMahon is plugging in different Superstars to see who fits and can further the purple brand’s worth. Next month the cruiserweights will be putting on their very own live events and even Nia Jax is being brought in as a love interest to current champ Enzo Amore.
Bringing different Superstars in is the main way WWE have been trying to increase interest in 205 Live, though so far that has had mixed results. Neville and Austin Aries carried the division for a few months earlier this year yet now A-Double has left the company and Neville may be following him out the door. Enzo’s introduction has worked out pretty well though and Hideo Itami is about to join him.
The rumors that Itami would be joining 205 Live were a little out of left field. The Japanese star is very much on his way though and it was revealed this past Tuesday that Hideo will be making his 205 Live bow next week. As of right now there has been no announcement as to what his role will be or who he will go up against first.
Hideo’s time in NXT hasn’t gone the way he or WWE would have wanted to. Injuries have prevented him from achieving his full potential there, and had that not happened, he probably would have been an NXT Champion right now. Unfortunately that has not been the case and now Itami will need to make a name for himself on 205 Live and try to raise the stock of the show in the process.
Whatever the fate of Hideo Itami is on 205 Live, let’s hope that WWE have something good planned for him. Itami is an incredible performer and because of things beyond his control he hasn’t had a real chance to demonstrate that to the WWE Universe. If given the opportunity he can do that in the cruiserweight division and put 205 Live on the map in the process.
