Eddie Edwards suffered what was reported as a gruesome injury during an Impact taping. Edwards was wrapping up a brutal match with Sami Callihan (Solomon Crowe to those WWE only fans), and after the match, Callihan decided to attack him, but it all went wrong.
He placed Edwards’ head on a steel chair, and then hit it with a baseball bat, but unfortunately, it ricocheted and hit him right on top of the head that caused him to bleed profusely. He was immediately rushed to the ER at a local medical facility, and he has been declared "OK" (as reported by PWInsider) but had some broken bones and cuts that needed to be glued shut. While that’s a positive sign, it’s a reminder that the wrestling business is indeed a physical one where injuries can happen at any time.
Thanks to everyone checkin in. Im good, couple broken bones couple cuts and a sweet black eye. Somedays youre the bat, somedays youre my eye— Eddie Edwards (@TheEddieEdwards) January 14, 2018
We hope to know more information soon when Impact Wrestling updates us on his status, but being declared OK so soon is a very good sign, and it’s a sign that he will likely be back in the Impact Zone very soon.
Wrestling is a very tough, physical business to work in, and adding these kinds of brutal weapon-based attacks in will always come with a risk, and while we don’t blame Callihan at all, it’s just a very unfortunate situation. Edwards and Callihan are both no strangers to this brutality, and it was clearly an accident from all reports (Callihan would have absolutely no reason to do this on purpose), so hopefully, when Edwards returns soon there is no sign of animosity between the two rivals.
