AEW star Brian Cage was recently a guest on “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” and talked about his recent appearance for ROH, his time in AEW, and his negotiations with WWE before going to AEW and finding what he felt was a better fit. Saying WWE called him "average at best", he knew it was time to let go of the dream to be a WWE star.

When he was asked about his WWE release, Cage said he had been waiting on a raise, so to get the call that he was being released was a shock. He noted he legitimately asked if they had the right number when they called because he was told he was getting a new deal and going on the road, but that they said he was a little too indie and needed to get some more experience. His response was, "So I have to go to the indies to get more experience and not be so indie? Hmm, ok, that makes sense."

After that happened, he said WWE did call him back on a couple of occasions. The first time, they wanted him to be a part of the Tough Enough show. He said, then they took him off the list. After that, they invited him down to NXT, but changed their minds again. When he asked why, he said he got a text message that read, ‘You are average at best and we are no longer interested.’ He noted that getting a text like that really made him mad. He noted he kept things professional and said he was happy to potentially work together again down the road, but in his head, he was ready to move on.

He noted that he started doing really well professionally when he let go of the WWE dream and he would hear they wanted him for other tryouts and such but when they finally reached out he turned them down because he had just signed with AAA and Lucha Underground. He said WWE was shocked and he felt kind of good about it.

Cage Wound Up In AEW

Before he made his way to IMPACT and then ultimately signed with AEW, he did say there was small talk between himself and WWE but nothing ever serious. He's glad things worked out the way they did. As for whether or not he ever goes back to WWE, that remains to be seen. It doesn't sound like that would be something coming down the pipe anytime soon.
