One look at Batista‘s face and you’d have to assume that Jack Swagger’s training for a bout in MMA is going pretty well. Batista being no stranger to the world of MMA has a nice shiner just in time for the holidays courtesy of the former WWE Superstar and amateur wrestling athlete.
In potentially any other situation, this type of shiner would upset someone. Instead, Batista went to Instagram to brag about his early Christmas present, likely trying to demonstrate that Jack Swagger is no slouch when it comes to physicality.
Formerly of the University of Oklahoma, Swagger was a two-sport athlete before signing with the WWE in 2006. His resume as part of the professional wrestling organization reads impressively. He became a two-time world champion, a WWE United States Champion, and was a Money in the Bank winner in 2010.
After leaving WWE, he toured around the world wrestling on the independent scene and unlike former stars like Cody Rhodes, has not found better success in wrestling outside WWE.
Rumors quickly surfaced that he wanted to try his hand at mixed martial arts and is currently signed as a heavyweight to the Bellator MMA promotion. It was announced that he would be making his debut in 2018.
Batista, meanwhile, has been known to befriend a number of other former WWE Superstars and in some cases help them gain success outside the world’s biggest wrestling company. There were rumors that Batista was looking to return full time to the WWE, but no indication of the details or timing of that return.
Batista has never been shy about expressing his opinion on all things wrestling, the business and how the WWE treats its superstars. As it stands right now, Batista has a mixed martial arts record of 1-0 with a 2012 win over Vince Lucero.
