James Ellsworth revealed who the mastermind was behind putting him with Carmella, and the revelation may surprise you.

James Ellsworth's run on WWE television has lasted longer than anyone likely ever imagined it would. A WWE career that began with a squash match against Braun Strowman, evolved into him getting WWE Championship matches versus AJ Styles, and now sees him come out on a dog lead as Carmella's lap dog/valet.

Although the whole reason James Ellsworth wound up landing himself a contract with WWE was because the fans took an inexplicable shine to him during his match with The Monster Among Men, he has gone on to become a heel on SmackDown Live. The pinnacle of that hate from the fans came when he grabbed the briefcase during the first-ever women's Money in the Bank match. That obviously came on the back of him being paired with Carmella, an odd idea that stinks of Vince McMahon's thought process.

While it's been a successful pairing, it turns out though that the idea for Carmellsworth was not one that the boss came up with. During his appearance on Jerry Lawler's podcast, Dinner With The King, Ellsworth revealed that it was actually Carmella's idea for them to pair up. Miss Money in the Bank approached him with the idea and when he gave it the OK she went straight to Vince with it who loved it. Apparently, before the run began Ellsworth didn't know Carmella very well, but during their time together they've become really good friends.

The reason the pairing of Carmella and Ellsworth reeks of something McMahon thought up is because it effectively revolved around the latter being humiliated. From the idea that a woman like Carmella would never be interested in a guy like Ellsworth to the almost bully-like comments on commentary from JBL, it really does come as a surprise that it was Carmella who came up with the idea.

While Ellsworth still on WWE television might be getting pretty grating, it's hard to argue with Carmella's results since she's had The Chinless Wonder by her side. The Princess of Staten Island was getting little to nothing from the crowd in terms of reaction pre-Ellsworth, now she is Miss Money in the Bank and will likely be Women's Champion at some point in the coming months.
