Jeff Jarrett is one of the most high-profile figures during the Monday Night Wars. Double J jumped ship from WWE to WCW multiple times and carved out a successful career. However, there were some things about Jarrett's career that failed to make sense.

Jeff Jarrett had an exceptional career, but it was not without controversial moments. The former six-time Intercontinental Champion is the mastermind behind Impact Wrestling as he was the founder of TNA with considerable success. Moreover, Jarrett didn't settle for less and he wouldn't hesitate to go back and forth between WWE and WCW.

Nonetheless, Jarrett's career was decorated, and he was finally welcomed back to the WWE fold in 2018 when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Jarrett's lengthy career was remarkable, and there are bound to be moments in his career that were illogical.

10 Two Matches At Rebellion 1999

Jeff Jarrett vs Chyna Rebellion 1999

At Rebellion 1999, Jeff Jarrett opened up proceedings by defending the Intercontinental Championship against D'Lo Brown. Brown was the reigning European Champion, but he had a free hit at becoming a double champion since Jarrett's title was on the line by way of a coin toss.

Double J retained the Intercontinental Title which was fine, but he was concurrently feuding with Chyna. He had a brief match with The Ninth Wonder of The World, but it was nonsensical for Jarrett to fight twice in one night with no logic whatsoever, especially since his match with Chyna was about two and a half minutes.

9 NWA North American Heavyweight Champion On WWE TV

Jeff Jarrett NWA North American Champion

In early 1998, Jim Cornette managed The NWA faction, which is a play on the NWA promotion that dominated the territories. Jarrett was an integral figure in the group as he defeated Barry Windham to become the new NWA North American Heavyweight Champion.

It made no sense for Jarrett to hold the NWA North American Heavyweight Title since it wasn't on par with the WWE Championship. Jarrett was thriving in his Double J gimmick, but it felt like it was one step backward for Jarrett to be involved in this group. By March 1998, he departed the group and the title was vacated.

8  Vacating & Winning Back Intercontinental Title In 1995

Jeff Jarrett v Bob Holly Action Zone 1995

Jarrett is a six-time Intercontinental Champion, and he began his love affair with the prestigious title by defeating Razor Ramon at Royal Rumble 1995. Double J did a remarkable job as IC champion, and he managed to retain it against Ramon in a rematch at WrestleMania XI albeit by disqualification.

However, Jarrett and Bob Holly collided for the Intercontinental Title on Action Zone in late April 1995, and the title was vacated with a controversial finish. What was even more nonsensical, is that Jarrett recaptured the title. This shouldn't have happened, and Jarrett's 94-day reign as Intercontinental Champion should have continued.

7 Gifting Mark Henry The European Championship

Jeff Jarrett and Mark Henry

Jeff Jarrett lost the Intercontinental Championship to European Champion D'Lo Brown leading up to SummerSlam 1999, and they had a rematch at SummerSlam. Jarrett was hellbent on regaining the Intercontinental Title and adding the European Championship to his collection.

It was a decent match between the two, and Mark Henry did the unthinkable by turning his back on Brown by aiding Jarrett to capture both titles. However, the following night on Raw, as a token of goodwill, Jarrett relinquished the European Championship and handed it over to Mark Henry. It was illogical for Double J to do that as he could have continued his feud with Brown over the titles and had more heat with both titles.

6 Alliance With Southern Justice

Southern Justice

Jeff Jarrett hired the rechristened Mark Canterbury and Dennis Knight to be his bodyguards and they were repackaged as Southern Justice. Southern Justice was formerly The Godwinns, and it was hard to take them seriously after the gimmick they previously portrayed.

They aided Jarrett in his feud with DX. But in all honesty, Jarrett was better off without them. The partnership folded in the fall of 1998 with Canterbury getting injured, and Knight became Mideon shortly thereafter in Undertaker's Ministry of Darkness stable.

5 Short Intercontinental Championship Reigns

Jeff Jarrett and Debra

Jeff Jarrett was the record holder of six Intercontinental Title reigns until Chris Jericho broke his record with a seventh reign in 2004. Whilst, Jarrett is unquestionably one of the greatest Intercontinental Champions of all time, some of his title reigns were forgettable.

Double J's second reign in 1995 lasted just 23 days and some of his championships runs in 1999 were pointless. It devalues the legitimacy of the Intercontinental Title when it changed hands frequently, and whilst Jarrett did have one long run with the title, the majority of his reigns were underwhelming.

4 Never Winning The WWE Championship

"Double J" Jeff Jarrett

There are a plethora of great Intercontinental Champions to never grasp the WWE Championship and Jeff Jarrett is in that category. Double J certainly had the attributes to hold the coveted WWE Championship as he had exceptional in-ring and mic skills.

However, Jarrett almost defeated Diesel for the WWE Championship in 1995, and he was due to feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin over the title. Unfortunately, Austin shot that idea down, but it would have been nice to see Jarrett have a run as WWE Champion.

3 Short WCW Championship Reigns In 2000

Jarrett celebrating after winning the WCW Title.

There was a lot of backstage politics going on in WCW in 2000, and the company was on its last legs. Double J managed to capture four WCW World Heavyweight Championships which is a remarkable achievement but his title reigns were absolutely atrocious.

His first reign lasted eight days and he dropped the title to Diamond Dallas Page. Jarrett recaptured the title from David Arquette, but he had another eight-day run with the title. Jarrett's third WCW World Heavyweight Title reign lasted just one day and Kevin Nash beat him on Thunder. It made no sense for the WCW World Heavyweight Title to change hands frequently as the title reigns were meaningless.

2 Contract Expiring Before No Mercy 1999

Jarrett v Chyna No Mercy 1999

By the time No Mercy 1999 rolled around, Jeff Jarrett was still the reigning Intercontinental Champion and he defended the title against Chyna. They had a Good Housekeeping match with The Ninth Wonder of the World bidding to make history as the first-ever woman to hold the Intercontinental Championship.

However, the issue was that Jarrett's contract had expired, and Jarrett requested a six-figure sum from Vince McMahon to drop the title to Chyna. It's a schoolboy error from WWE to make Jarrett's contract run as it could have been catastrophic if Jarrett showed up to WCW, and take the Intercontinental Championship with him. Double J got an undisclosed fee and dropped the gold to Chyna, but he was virtually blacklisted from WWE for almost two decades.

1 Hulk Hogan Refusing To Lose To Him At Bash At The Beach 2000

Hulk Hogan & Jeff Jarrett Bash At The Beach 2000

Controversial moments and Jeff Jarrett seemed to go hand-in-hand and it was no different at Bash at the Beach 2000. Jarrett was the reigning WCW World Heavyweight Champion, and he was meant to defeat Hulk Hogan and retain the title.

However, Hogan has a reputation for being extremely difficult to lose matches and this was no different. Vince Russo ordered Jarrett to lie down which he did, and it was expected that Hogan would claim another controversial victory. Nevertheless, none of that happened and the reason for WCW's demise was that they had too many cooks in the kitchen with many having creative control. Hogan cut a promo and departed WCW, the whole angle was nonsensical and Jarrett should have defeated Hogan which would have been huge.
