Jim Ross recently noted that when he was with WWE, he and Vince had to make a decision on a female star that wanted $1 million per year guaranteed. Ultimately, they chose to let her walk away.

During his recent Grilling JR podcast and while speaking about the Backlash 2000 event,(via AdFreeShows.com), Ross, who used to work with WWE as the former Senior Vice President of WWE’s Talent Relations, said Chyna wanted a hefty guarantee. Feeling she was as big a draw and as unique as stars like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Ross had to make a decision on whether or not to meet her request or let her quit?

Ross explained:

“She wanted a million dollars guarantee because she felt like she was worth more being a female, being more unique, than Stone Cold, some of the other guys. There was only a handful of guys making a million dollars per year.”

Ross then noted that when consulting with McMahon about what to do, Vince left it up to Ross, almost like it was a test to see if Ross believed Chyna was worthy of being paid that much. Ross said he told McMahon, “I said, ‘Vince, if I can’t get a decent number, we may have to pass on it.’ He said, ‘Well, that’s your call.’"

In the end, Ross decided he couldn’t justify giving her a million dollars a year. He knew she could have earned that in year and maybe did a couple of times but he noted that guarantee was just too big.

Things Went Downhill For Chyna After That

After leaving WWE, Chyna's wrestling career took a nosedive and her personal life was full of demons. She ultimately passed away much earlier than she should have. This is not to say letting her leave was the cause of her problems, but it may have factored in.

Was Chyna wrong to ask for so much? Or, did she have a point and really was that unique?
