WWE Champion Jinder Mahal has already defeated some of SmackDown's biggest talents, including Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura, and next, it might be John Cena. Last week, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that A.J. Styles could be Mahal's next rival and challenger for the title.
But Mahal has already hinted at yet another big name that could be his opponent at WrestleMania 34, as pointed out by WrestleZone. Mahal did a Q&A segment with fans on Twitter, and was asked who he'd like to face on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
Mahal said he would like to face John Cena, adding "This is an official challenge to you (Cena)." Mahal also added that he had "full intentions" of remaining the champion leading up to WrestleMania.
WWE's main pay-per-view event is still nearly a half year away, so it's only speculation on Mahal's behalf if a match between him and Cena could take place. Given he's only a part-time wrestler at this point, it's possible Cena ends up with a bigger-named opponent than Mahal himself.
But perhaps having Cena face Mahal could be key in getting the latter over. Cena has lost to talents like Kevin Owens, AJ Styles, and Roman Reigns at recent pay-per-views to help put them over. He's always willing to do what's best for business, so maybe a match and loss to Mahal at WrestleMania is in the folds.
It also remains to be seen if Mahal would even be the WWE Champion at 'Mania. Thus far, his title reign hasn't gotten over with the fans or many critics. If the creative team decides he's not cutting it as champion, they'll likely have him face a less appealing name than John Cena.
All we know is that Mahal has made it clear who he wants to face next. We just wait and see if it happens.
