Though we haven't seen much of them lately, John Cena and Samoa Joe are among the biggest names in the WWE today. Seeing these two face off could be considered a dream match for some wrestling fans.
Now, it appears to be a reality now. WWE recently updated its card for the Dec. 26, 2017 show at Madison Square Garden and announced that these two wrestling icons will go head-to-head inside the world's most famous arena. So, scratch one of your dream matches off the list.
Cena— a future Hall of Famer—has only wrestled on a part-time basis in the last couple of years as he focuses more on making movies in Hollywood.
As for Samoa Joe, he made his main roster debut for the WWE back in January after spending two years in NXT. He didn't need long to get over, thanks to his ability in putting on great matches against other top stars like Roman Reigns, Finn Balor, and Brock Lesnar.
Until the Oct. 30, 2017, episode of Raw, Joe hadn't been seen for two months as he nursed a knee injury. But the creative team wasted no time trying to get Joe back into the main event picture. He was named to Team Raw for the five-on-five Survivor Series match. Now, we'll see a dream match between Joe and John Cena.
Obviously, it'll be the first match between these two superstars. Joe spent time in TNA before moving over to NXT. With Cena's WWE future in question (he's 40 years of age and doesn't appear on television much anymore), the creative team saw the opportunity to have this match was now.
Cena was the face of the WWE in the Ruthless Aggression Era, and for much of the PG Era as well. Samoa Joe is one of the top rising stars of today. This match features a star of the past vs. a star of the present. Fans can only hope the match goes as well as it looks to be on paper. All we can say is to make sure you do your Boxing Day shopping early.
