John Morrison has been an underrated addition to the WWE roster in 2020 when returning after a long absence from wrestling elsewhere. Many fans forget that John Morrison's WWE career started as the apprentice of Eric Bischoff. The original name of Johnny Nitro was inspired by Bischoff wanting his apprentice to have the same name of his formerly successful WCW show.

Nitro rarely ever did anything physical and mostly just served as a sidekick to Bischoff backstage. The heel run of Bischoff as the Raw General Manager made Nitro’s limited appearances matter to give him some relevant experience.

The end of John Morrison's time in Impact Wrestling saw him teaming with his real wife Taya Valkyrie as a power couple holding both major titles. Under the name of Johnny Impact, he became arguably the top all-around performer in Impact Wrestling.

Morrison clearly was still a major player in the wrestling industry as multiple promotions reached out to him when his contract expired. WWE was the place to sign him, but Morrison made his mark in Impact before leaving.

8 Forming Tag Team With The Miz

WWE placed John Morrison and The Miz together in a tag team on the ECW brand when both wrestlers were trying to find an ideal role moving forward. Both wrestlers were a little surprised at how much chemistry they had since they wanted to be singles wrestlers.

The smaller ECW brand gave Miz and Morrison the chance to experiment with their characters more than the stars of Raw and SmackDown. WWE eventually pushed them harder on other shows and made them a top heel duo before the eventual split.

7 Reuniting With The Miz

The Miz played a huge role in John Morrison choosing to return to WWE in early 2020. Both guys remained close friends outside of WWE despite working for separate promotions. Morrison agreed to come back to reform his tag team with Miz.

Both wrestlers felt they would have a lot of fun reuniting and wanted to reach a higher level as a team since their prior run ended shortly into the run. Morrison and Miz have been entertaining together with quite a few great matches and a humorous music video parody as bright spots on SmackDown.

6 Johnny Mundo In Lucha Undergound

The start of Lucha Underground saw them prioritizing John Morrison as one of their biggest signings for season one. Morrison worked under the new name of Johnny Mundo and was utilized in the marketing as one of the faces of the new brand.

The prior WWE success for Morrison made him arguably the biggest name on the roster and he was treated as such. Fans enjoyed the run of Johnny Mundo in LU providing some of the best matches of his career.

5 Solo Heel Run With Melina

John Morrison was linked with Melina and vice versa for the first few years of their careers in WWE. The end of the MNM saw Joey Mercury getting released while Morrison moved forward on his own with Melina as his manager.

WWE utilized Morrison as one of the top mid-carders with a few memorable feuds in the Intercontinental Championship picture. Morrison’s matches with Shelton Benjamin, Carlito, and Jeff Hardy showed his overall in-ring potential.

4 Becoming John Morrison In ECW

The name change from Johnny Nitro to John Morrison came in ECW when WWE wanted to rebrand him without Melina. This new character was inspired by legendary musician Jim Morrison and WWE gave him more chances to get over on his own with it.

Morrison had a couple of great matches with CM Punk for the ECW Championship that started to elevate his career to a new level. The successful name change was the first time Morrison got to shine on his own as a main event player and it launched him into a bigger role moving forward.

3 Face Of Impact Wrestling

Impact Wrestling forming a working relationship with Lucha Underground and AAA saw John Morrison making appearances that made him realize he enjoyed working there. The name of Johnny Impact was used when making Impact his priority.

Johnny had a tremendous run to win the Impact World Championship and become the face of the company. A personal rivalry with Austin Aries saw Johnny winning to seize the role that helped turn Impact around for the better.

WWE found success with the trio of Johnny Nitro, Joey Mercury, and Melina as MMM in developmental. All three wrestlers worked perfectly together as a heel act that got over instantly when called up to SmackDown.

Nitro looked like the star of the trio since he had the most singles potential. However, they all benefited to have a tremendous run as one of the top heel tag teams of the 2000s. WWE established all three wrestlers thanks to the successful experiment that was MNM. Collectively, Nitro and Mercury are three-time WWE Champions and one-time OVW Southern Tag Team Champions.

The end of the tag team between John Morrison and The Miz saw Morrison moving into a face role. WWE found the most success for Morrison as a singles face who had stellar matches in the mid-card and in the occasional main event spot.

Morrison was always on the cusp of moving into the top spots, but he peaked with the Intercontinental Championship. The feuds with Miz, Sheamus, and many others gave him the spotlight to prove his worth in WWE. Many fans believe Morrison deserved a title reign or at least a bigger main event push during that chapter of his career.
