It was reported on Thursday that John Morrison was headed back to the WWE for the first time in eight years, but the former Intercontinental Champion hinted that a deal has not been reached.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com reported that Morrison had signed a contract to return to WWE. But wrestling fans who were excited about such a return better hold their horses, because Morrison took to Twitter and suggested that there is no deal in place with WWE.

Interestingly, wrestling insider Brad Shepard also reported that Thursday that Morrison had signed a contract to return to WWE. At any rate, Morrison isn't giving us any indication as to whether or not he's coming back.

It's possible that Morrison is talking to WWE, but perhaps the two have yet to reach a deal. If Morrison has indeed signed with WWE, maybe he just wants to downplay the report in order to make his return more exciting and surprising. Only time will tell if Morrison is coming back or not.

Morrison first joined the main WWE roster in 2004, where he went by the "Johnny Nitro" ring name. Morrison later formed the MNM stable with Melina and Joey Mercury, even capturing the WWE Tag Team Championships three times. Morrison also won both the WWE and World Tag Team Championships with The Miz on one occasion apiece.

Morrison was also a three-time Intercontinental Champion and a one-time ECW World Champion who took home two Slammy Awards. After WWE, he performed in the Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, Lucha Underground and Impact Wrestling storylines - performing as "Johnny Impact" in the latter.

Morrison Keeps Us Guessing

A lot of superstars remain silent on reports that suggest they're leaving or joining a certain promotion, but Morrison has us guessing here after seemingly rejecting Johnson's report about his looming return. Obviously, fans hope that Morrison is just playing around here, because who wouldn't want him back in WWE? But again, we'll just have to wait and see if a Morrison return happens. If he is coming back, there's a strong chance that Morrison and WWE will succeed in keeping it quiet.
