As much as the WWE Universe was still hoping to see Kenny Omega emerge from behind the stage as one of the surprise entrants of this year's Royal Rumble, we also knew that it was very unlikely that would actually happen.
However, we were still holding out hope that when his NJPW contract expired in the next few days that he would sing his next contract with the WWE. Well, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that doesn't look like it is going to happen either.
In an interview with Wrestling Observer Radio Omega looks to have confirmed where he will sign next and it isn't with the WWE: he will be going back to NJPW.
No, a contract is not signed yet, but Omega will be returning to Japan in February to renegotiate and he has said that the deal is looking positive and that he almost certainly will be with NJPW for at least one more year.
When asked why he made the announcement now, right before the Royal Rumble, Omega said:
"I don’t want people to have this sort of false hope of me showing up in the Royal Rumble" ... "and then not being there, and being disappointed, when there’s a fantastic match happening with fantastic competitors in it."
So, it appears that Omega fans will have to wait at least one more year before they may see Kenny in the WWE.
