For WWE fans hoping to see the debut of Kenny Omega at the Royal Rumble or members of the WWE Universe wishing the WWE would sign one of the most talented wrestlers not currently in the WWE, it looks like you’re going to need to wait at least one more year.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required) is reporting Omega has signed a new deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) that will keep him a part of their promotion until January 31, 2019. That means, no WrestleMania 34 and no surprise Royal Rumble appearance for Omega.

Kenny Omega is the current IWGP United States Champion for NJPW and he was widely regarded as the hottest free agent in wrestling. Recent storylines between Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega even made it look like a rift was forming, some fans believing that was a sign Omega was leaving. Apparently, such is not the case.
After tearing down the house with Chris Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 12, NJPW knows how much of an asset Omega is to the company and with their future North American expansion around the corner, having Omega in the fold was smart for business.
Whether this new one-year deal is a sign that Omega still wants to consider a WWE contract down the road is uncertain, but it appears he believes the best place for him today is Japan. Able to have longer matches that he believes highlights his creativity in the ring, he’s one of many who ignored WWE as an option and found success, not as part of the largest wrestling promotion in the world.
This might come as a shock to many WWE fans but perhaps it shouldn’t. Omega has never really hinted at leaving for WWE and he’s been openly positive about his time in Japan while being openly critical of the way WWE books its talent.
