There is all sorts of speculation as to what might have motivated Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn to go off-script during a recent episode of SmackDown Live. What most people seem to understand (from the little official information that is actually out there) is that the duo "went into business for themselves" and decided not to follow instructions as written and Vince McMahon was furious. He was so mad that both were sent home early from the UK tour and their immediate futures were a bit uncertain.
But, if a recent report is accurate, it doesn't appear that the punishment handed down to either wrestler is a long-term thing. Wrestlingnews.co is reporting, "Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are booked to return to SmackDown Live next week. They were booked in a match with The New Day which is still being advertised. Therefore it looks like that’s still going to happen."
It is this angle with New Day that seems to be the focus of what is causing the riff between WWE and Owens and Zayn. If that's the case, how the match plays out might tell us a lot about how the WWE views Owen's and Zayn's actions. A squash match would definitely indicate the company is sending both a lesson. A win by Owens or Zayn might mean that there is no real problem at all and that the internet blew this story completely out of proportion.
If the WWE plans to use either New Day or Owens and Zayn on the Survivor Series pay-per-view, this Tuesday is the last opportunity the company will have to set those wheels in motion. The good news for fans is that both will be back on WWE programming this week and neither man is in jeopardy of permanent damage as far as their WWE careers go. The potentially bad news is that whatever they're doing could be a result of their actions and a message that you do as instructed or you pay the consequences.
