After defeating Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35, Kofi Kingston endured a remarkable and emotional run with the WWE Championship, becoming the ultimate feel-good story while capturing the hearts of fans around the world.

But Kingston's storied WWE Championship run ended on the Oct. 4 SmackDown Live Fox premiere. Brock Lesnar defeated Kingston in just a few seconds, thus putting a sour end to a beautiful title reign.

Kingston sent out a heartfelt message to the fans, having enjoyed the greatest title run of his career. And according to Kingston, even Vince McMahon himself was pretty emotional after Lesnar defeated him to win the WWE Championship.

In an interview with talkSPORT, Kingston detailed his backstage encounter with the WWE chairman. As it turns out, Vince was actually tearing up following Kingston's crushing defeat.

"We definitely had some words," Kingston said. "It was positive because it was very special for both of us. You saw the documentary, when I came through gorilla after winning, he had tears in his eyes and we’re all hugging, myself, Woods and (Big) E. Because, it’s been a wild ride, man. Vince has been on the ride with us and he was actually one of the only people to support the New Day when we were first coming up."

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like we'll be seeing Kingston back in the main event picture any time soon. With Woods out long-term because of an Achilles injury, Kingston and Big E will continue working together as a duo in the tag team division.

Lesnar "quit" SmackDown Live last week after defeating Cain Velasquez at the Crown Jewel show, and he moved over to the Raw brand. This came a day after Bray Wyatt became the new Universal Champion, thus moving the title belt over to SmackDown.

Of course, Lesnar is a top main event draw in the WWE, and putting the title on him was expected to help SmackDown's ratings. However, Fox has garnered poor viewership numbers for the most part thus far, so perhaps that was a reason why WWE decided to move him over to Raw - with Wyatt carrying the most prestigious title on SmackDown.

Kingston Deserved A Better Fate

It was disappointing to see Kingston's five-month title reign end in a matter of a few seconds to a part-time superstar. But this just part of the wrestling business, and a humble Kingston understood this. He did what was asked of him, and it's why Kingston is among the most beloved superstars in the WWE. Hopefully, we'll get to see him enjoy one more run with a major championship down the road.
