Ask any WWE fan what they think of the storyline regarding Kurt Angle and Jason Jordan and you're likely to get a mixed reaction. The WWE has tried father and son gimmicks before, but to this extent, where a blue chip prospect like Jordan is teaming up with a Hall of Fame in Angle is a first. As such, there is a lot left to be answered.
So far, the WWE Universe is not sure how to respond to Jordan who is clearly gifted in the ring, but being handed a golden ticket by being associated with Angle. Is he getting too much too soon? Should fans cheer him? The past tendency has been to shun those who are deemed the chosen ones — just ask Roman Reigns. Or, is this going to be a slow build with a lot of moving parts, eventually culminating in Jordan receiving a monster push if and when he deserves one?
Kurt Angle was recently asked the same question. During an interview with Garry, Tim, and Hamish the trio read a fan question who wanted Angle's take on how much he was enjoying being a part of the storyline.
"I think Jason has a lot of potential," responded Angle. "I think he's going to be one of the more popular superstars down the road. He has a little bit of work to do – he's a little bit shy – but as far as his athleticism, he's one of the best we've got here. And I don't doubt that he's going to be a world champion one day and I think this storyline will definitely help him."
To date, Angle is right. The announcement that Jordan was Angle's illegitimate son was a bombshell. After that, the WWE hasn't addressed the backstory much other than a sit-down interview where the two stars said they would take some time to get to know each other and from there, having announcers talk about Jordan being the son of an Olympic gold medalist. At this point, Jordan is simply out to prove he can live up to the legacy Angle created when he was a full-time WWE Superstar.
When asked if whatever he does next in the WWE could lead to him stepping in the ring, Angle said, "We've talked about it...But, I haven't taken the physical yet. Really? I don't know – I don't know when, or if, I'm going to. My guess is, I will – but I'm going to sit, and wait, and be patient, and see what the boss wants to do. I'd imagine the storyline would have something to do with me possibly wrestling but it's not a guarantee. I just know that I can still go and I think the boss knows that."
Basically, if the Jason Jordan storyline goes the direction of Jordan turning on Angle or Angle needing to help his son, one way or another this is going to lead to Angle getting back into the ring and for that, many in the WWE Universe are going to be very happy.
Expect all of this to lead to something at WrestleMania 34. If that's the case, there should be more of a focus on the story starting toward the end of 2017 and into the Royal Rumble.
