If not for Chris Jericho winning the WWE Undisputed Championship, things could be quite different over his career. Who does he have to thank for that?

Kurt Angle didn't suggest during his interview with Chris Van Vliet that Jericho owes him a huge debt of gratitude, but if the story he's telling is true, Angle hopefully at least got a little bottle of the bubbly for his sacrifice.

Angle sat down with the YouTube interviewer and revealed that he was supposed to be the first-ever WWE Undisputed Champion. Things changed when Vince call him up and ran an idea by him.

Angle explained, "Five days before, Vince gave me a call and said, 'I really want to give the title to Jericho, I think he would really benefit from this. I agreed with it." Not only was Angle willing to step aside for Jericho, but he believed in the now AEW Champion, even back then.

Angle added, "I said, Vince if anyone needs this and could run with it, it would be Chris Jericho. I was very honored that Vince had enough respect for me to tell me instead of not telling me. He wanted to get my feelings on it and I agreed with him."

Jericho's Career Took Off After That

The moment Jericho shocked the world by winning the Undisputed Championship, he never looked back. A somewhat unearthed talent in WCW, WWE really pushed hard for his success. But, it was the title win that put him in that top tier of Superstars and he became a megastar for years afterward.

Had Angle stood his ground said 'No, you promised this to me', as a lot of wrestlers used to do back then, things for Jericho certainly wouldn't be where they are now.

Angle believes that the title win took Jericho's career to another level. It's hard to disagree with that.
